Ken S (ag) wrote: Decent comedy featuring Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby, Daniel Stern, and Jack Palance is entertaining enough. Crystal, Kirby, and Stern play friends from New York City who go off to a dude ranch to partake in a real cattle run, with Palance ad the gruff old cowboy who guides them. It is mostly a fish out if water comedy, and as those goes it works fairly well.

Allan C (ag) wrote: I watched this film at just the right time because today I also started playing "L.A. Noir" today and they have very much the same look and feel. Both have a lot of brightly lit, but still very noir feeling 1950s Los Angeles. The story involves two brothers, one a LA police detective and the other a rising star in the Catholic church, who are both connected to a murder investigation. The film has a bit more of a gritty, realistic feel to old LA than "Chinatown," but it also makes the film feel a bit more drab. The look and feel of the film is it's the main strength because the story is ponderously slow. However, the production design, photography, music and atmosphere, along with the great Robert De Niro and Robert Duvall, make it well worth watching if you're in a patient mood for a slow movie Black Dahlia-like mystery. Charles Durning, Kenneth McMillan, Burgess Meredith, Dan Hedaya and James Hong help make-up a solid supporting cast.

This one feels very much of its time and I kinda dig it for that, as if somehow paying lip service to the action films or Blaxploitation fare of the time adds to the charm of it all.Well worth a look, give it a rental.

Rico F (au) wrote: This one certainly has the ingredients for a near classic. I am a huge fan of Samuel L. Jackson. I am also a huge fan of Ben Affleck. Put the two together and you are bound to have a very good movie on your hands. This one goes along with that formula. A powerful performance by both leading actors accompanied by an interesting and compelling plot and you have a movie that should not be missed. Similar to 'Sliding Doors' in how fate brings the two characters together. Don't hesitant, go out and watch this one.
