A Different Kind of Christmas

When you're the city attorney you don't need the kinds of problems that her father was giving her. After her mother died, her father began doing his "Santa Schick," as she called it, much more intensely... which meant that he turned his home into a kind of year-round Santa Claus castle where children of all ages could come to see the wonderful presents and no child ever left without a gift.

Stephen G (it) wrote: A great, funny, and fun filled film with incredible animation, wonderful voice acting, a quick pace and a solid story fleshed out with developing characters. This is the animation to beat for best animated picture at the 2015 Oscars.

David L (it) wrote: Never heard of this before, so there was an obvious assumption that it would be a load of rubbish, but not so........well not so if you don't mind some sickening gore that is. It reminded me of a low budget version of hostel given that the key focus point of the film seemed to be to crank up the torture methods, and death scenes. Where it differed was in the fact that this offered little by way of anything else, and especially in relation to any decent storyline or character background - just your everyday teenagers getting drunk, and lost in the woods. It was i'd say at the top end of the low budget horror's as it had all the essentials of a good old slasher movie, and is possibly even worthy of another watch sometime - even if it is just to see my mates cringe (especially the blokes, given the torture method in one of the scenes).

Dustin G (ca) wrote: Takeshis: So strange, I'm not sure what to think of it. However, I do wish Kitano would step away from making movies about his film making and acting career. However, I have enjoyed said films.Warlords = Best Jet Li movie by far, mate.

Johnathan M (jp) wrote: The brevity of the short is poisoned by the seriousness with which it takes itself. Kitamura can film action...it's a shame that he keeps using the same handful of stereotypes to do it.

Guillermo B (ag) wrote: Omg, largest consensus ever!

Claire T (nl) wrote: wow I really love this movie, this movie was better than what I expected it to be, I loved this movie, I would love it on DVD, it was written by Noel Clarke and it also starred Noel Clarke

Zak L (es) wrote: the rating was just hurt by my recent discovery that Dakota Fanning was involved. meh never mind, it's still great

Brandon Y (fr) wrote: This is by far, one of the best movies ever in my opinion.

Leena R (ca) wrote: I was delighted to see this adaptation with a bit more brisk Miss Marple. Couldn't imagine the one played by Geraldine McEwan climbing windows and ahorseback :)

Karsh D (ru) wrote: A good Rathbone and Bruce Sherlock Holmes adventure as a small Canadian town is hit by a series of murders. This is how I like my Dr Watson. The dry humour, blustering buffoon type not the modern martial arts women chasing type we got in the recent re-make.

Daniel A (de) wrote: Though it isn't hard to appreciate the love cinemagoers may have had for All This, And Heaven Too in the early 1940s, today the film's horrifically outdated stylings have not aged well. The performances, which would surely have been the film's biggest draw back in the day, find no middle ground, with players either being over-the-top and campy (O'Neil) or too reserved and bordering on monotone (Boyer and surprisingly Davis). This said the story does still hold some intrigue, especially considering its basis in fact, and any fans of the period will no doubt enjoy seeing Davis playing a rare and uncharacteristically soft character.

Robbie V (nl) wrote: Stupid, gross, occasionally offensive...but pretty funny.

Jim H (ru) wrote: A mercurial sexpot travels the country making bad decisions with the wrong men and occasionally ruining someone else's life for little discernible reason.Jolene's voice over, which is the epitome of lazy storytelling, paints herself as a victim throughout the film's contrived events, but I found little pitiable about Jolene despite the almost charming naivete with which Jessica Chastain plays the part. In the end, I wonder what the point of Jolene's story is. Is the message about male cruelty or the ruining of an innocent? It's hard to make this case, especially after Jolene's lesbian jaunt.Overall, I found myself confused about why I should care about this character or what the filmmakers wanted to say about her.
