(fr) wrote: is it a good movie? probably not. But I got to give it props for being Nicholson's first bad-boy role, and for having a dialog exchange I'll never forget: (when Johnny is buying booze)Clerk: Do you have ID? Johnny: Yeah. Clerk: May I see it? Johnny: No.

(ag) wrote: This is a wonderful, clever, funny spoof a teen monster-in-the-water movie. It has great dialog, stellar actors, good photography and a 30-foot crocodile. What's missing that disappointed so many viewers? No skinny-dipping. In fact, no sexual content at all. Well, this isn't a movie for shallow teens trying to get laid on a Friday night. The jewel in the crown is Betty White in one of the funniest performances of her career. Highly recommended--but only if you are deeper than a rain puddle.
(it) wrote: Superb film! Richard Harris is blistering as the strangely sympathetic but utterly terrifying Frank. Rachel Roberts manages to out-act Harris, putting in an astonishing performance as a lonely, ice-cold, sickly widow. The music gives the film a marvellous sense of dread. Anderson's direction is wonderful, particularly in the scenes between Harris and Roberts.
