A Place in Heaven

A Place in Heaven

A young officer returns to his base after a daring mission. The cook's assistant, a religious Holocaust survivor, is envious of him. He believes that there is a place in heaven reserved for the brave officer who endangers his life for the sake of his Jewish brethren. The officer, in the spirit of the Zionist ethos, is secular and a non-believer. At the moment, he is so hungry that, for a plate of shaksuka, he is prepared to sign a contract transferring his secured place in heaven to the cook. Some forty years later, the present time of the movie, the tables have turned - the officer, now a retired general, is on his death bed in the hospital. His son who, to his father's horror, has found religion, is in a race against time. Before his father dies, he has to find that cook's assistant who, forty years earlier, bought his place in heaven. If and when he finds him, the son has to nullify the contract. If he doesn't, his father will go to hell.

Simon J (ca) wrote: Probably the worst film I've ever seen. I really can't think of a single positive thing to say about it other than it's mercifully short.

Trevor B (kr) wrote: wow...intense. i need me more of an ending though...something...please.

stefano l (fr) wrote: Bill Nighy is great in everything he does. The movie is nothing incredible, but its completely taken on by him and his charisma. Rupert Grint is good in supporting him, while I don't know how could be possible to consider Emily Blunt as an actress. I think she's as unexpressive as Christen Stewart, that is something indeed really difficult.

Trisha W (ag) wrote: This was a very interesting film. Not at all what I was expecting when I heard "post 9/11 Afghanistan." But it was comical in the midst of a very serious topic. The tale of the Indian journalists looking for Taliban, meet an American journalist looking for Taliban, and then meet one. But the unexpected story of the kind hearted Taliban was a very interesting (and kinda cliche) twist. You would never think that you would like a Taliban memeber, until you actually feel for this poor guy. It was definitely memorable. Not the best acting, but not terrible, and it was entertaining to watch.

Mikael K (mx) wrote: "Innocent Voices" has a heavy subject matter. It tries and in many ways succeeds in being a movie that conveys the voices of all the children forced to fight in wars all over the world. On a more immediate level it's a story of one boy in the 80's El Salvador, raised among violence and forced to partake in it.The film carries its thematic burden fairly well but it does succumb to some sentimentalism and misuse of melodrama, especially near the end. Still I can say that Luis Mandoki has succeeded in making a movie you should see; it puts a face and a human context to a phenomenon that should get all the attention it can while standing as an accomplished, relevant piece of fiction.

Brad B (ru) wrote: The movie was a huge disappointment. I read the original book I am David, and the movie was very wrong. In a lot of places. I also would think that the people who made this movie did not even read the book.

Connor M (br) wrote: This movie was not bad I thought that the first one sucked but I really liked this one.

Jose Luis M (fr) wrote: Drama ligero con buenas actuaciones y una bonita banda sonora.

Kathleen N (ca) wrote: It's a classic Alfred Hitchcock film. When I think of his work I think of this film. Cary Grant and Grace Kelly excellent. Won an Academy Award for Cinematography. Today this film would take home an Oscar in every category. It receives 5 star rating because it is that good.Quality acting carries this film. Versus the films made today. It's when actors knew how to act.

Matthew D (au) wrote: Kubrick's first short film about a day in the life of a boxer.

Bryan A (ag) wrote: Monsters vs Aliens has a very cute story to it & even more worth it when you are watching it on 3D...

Ken S (jp) wrote: Badly made action flick from the late 80s/early 90s about a Samurai Cop trying to take done some Samurai gang. It is poorly made in every regard. Badly lit, badly shot, badly directed, badly acted, and badly edited. Everything about this movie is bad, but it is hilariously bad...the kind of movie to watch with friends and laugh at. With the right crowd, this badly made film can be quite enjoyable.
