Muffin's wedding to Dino Corelli is to be a big affair. Except the ageing priest isn't too sure of the ceremony, only the families actually turn up as the Corelli Italian connection is suspect, security guards watch the gifts rather over-zealously, and Dino's grandma expires in bed just as the reception starts. Could be quite an occasion.

(it) wrote: Taking the angle of a secret lover of Marie Antoinette in view of her final days, Farewell, My Queen indeed offers the audience the humanistic sides of this notorious aristocrat. Unfortunately, the film is more of suppressed passion and desire than the history itself leading to nowhere, which is not quite fruitful and rewarding after all.

(br) wrote: Awe-inspiring and one of a kind. Banned in its home country for its honesty, this is an important movie among many important asian movies.Same basic point as in Chen Kaige's "Farewell My Concubine" but this movie is more genuine and wholesome. Take that as you will. Personally I felt a lot more emotion watching this one than Chen's interminably long and slightly deranged but just as strong film. Do see this one if you have to choose.

(de) wrote: Very good story and well written screen adaption from 1942 starring Ronald Reagan & Robert Cummings in the male leads and Betty Field and Ann Sheridan in the female leads. The story of friends who all grow up together in the small town of King's Row and what becomes of their lifes and dreams as adults. Ronald Reagan gives the performance of his life here I believe and so do many others. Where Robert Cummings is charming he does seem to over-act the part at times and Betty Field certainly does as his mentally disturbed love interest. But Ronald Reagan and Ann Sheridan are wonderful together and for me their paring in this film is what was most enjoyable to me as well as the most interesting story.
(es) wrote: Effectively chilling imagery, a dark heavy tone and great acting on the part of the lead is not enough to forgive the last part of this film. Some movies leave you with more questions than answers, in a good way. This is not one of those. It's a pity it changed direction, since the beginning of the film is everything you want in a ghost story. Love, murder, suicide, esoteric altars, the back story is rich and quite spooky. The way the spirit is depicted, in a classic ethereal sort of Dickensian way, sends chills up your spine and builds the movie quite well. Then suddenly, you're treated to a cat and mouse chase, a car being covered in symbols moving on its own, a terrible plan which succeeds only when foiled and, I can't understand this at all, a possible rape which is completely overlooked. It feels like two films. The first, haunting, chilling and well executed. The second, stapled together from tropes, half thoughts and more successful films.
