David S (es) wrote: Robert Deniro & Forest Whitaker carried this movie. If it wasn't for them, this would be one big mess. But because of them its just a mess.

Irene S (ca) wrote: Very good movie. Very well made movie. Story of two brothers living with am abusive druken father who takes out his anger on them. And how one brother wants a better life n one is comsummed with the life of a thug of the neighborhood.

Phani T (it) wrote: It's draggingly slow... almost like a crawl... The "transitions" across the sky of Tokyo or via the psychedelic seizure inducing lighting is good at first, but becomes boring after a few scenes and then ouright irritating, as it hampers the already slow and almost non-existent flow of the story. The last 16 minutes of the movie could just have been 2 minutes. Some might call it the director's vision, but, I don't see how it is artistic - to watch porn why does anybody need to watch this movie? The grainy, blurred look of the camera is irritating in the start, and later on gets worse - if that's art, then any just take your phone out in a movie theater and record - it'll be your work of art.The whole movie could be at best half its current length.Don't bother at all - sleep through, if you are force to watch.

Matthew L (gb) wrote: 35 Shots of Rum is an interesting film. It's French, so that should have been a clue that the action of the film would have been more psychological. The majority of the film's action concerns a middle-aged man, his college-aged daughter, and two other tenants of their apartment complex who have, seemingly, become extended parts of the father and daughter's family. The plot concerns their individual discontent and what they do to improve their situations. The performances are subtle and wonderful, and the story is moving and thought-provoking. Good film.

Campbell P (us) wrote: God Grew Tired of us makes Americans learn from the lives of the Sudanese in their war filled country. This documentary happens to be educational and entertaining in a lot of ways. For one thing, it accurately shows the hardships of their culture and what the people in Sudan go through but still manage to have hope. The families that are stuck on the borders have to deal with death, hunger, thirst and even weather. When a few of the Sudanese boys come to America they are really excited because their expectation is a country full of opportunities and thriving but they realize it's harder than they thought. We sort of get 3 separate stories that all connect due to the different paths each of the boys want to take. One wants to be educated, one wants to work, and another wishes to marry and go back to Sudan. As time goes by it gets really emotional how the boys feel as though they were seriously mislead this whole time and just miss their homes. It's neat to see how these boys try to coincide with American culture but find that things are weird here and not the way they want it to be. It's really sad to see how much this group struggles and how they feel safer at home where there's war occurring. I think the director captured a message really well and it works. It's important that we know as a country what these other countries such as Sudan go through and how it's not easy for everyone to adjust. This film is emotional, funny, and inspiring how they still function as a family together. B+

brendan n (jp) wrote: this is a complete waste of talent and shows that having a talented cast will take you no where without the depth of story and creativity. this film has been done so many times before but so much better and i feel its a shame more depth wasn't given to the characters. the film is so dark and forgettable, why they felt the need to make this i'll never know. the filmmakers need a training session in creativity and filmmaking because i want my time back

Allan C (fr) wrote: Normal Lear's only outing as a feature film director is a clever satire, but seems nowhere as edgy as his many TV series. The story revolves around a tobacco company, hoping for good publicity, offering $25 million to any American town that quits smoking for 30 days. It's a fun movie with a good cast (Dick Van Dyke, Bob Newhart, Paul Benedict, Helen Page Camp, Bob Elliott, Ray Goulding, Vincent Gardenia, Edward Everett Horton [in his final film role] ,Tom Poston, Jean Stapleton and M. Emmet Walsh), but it's not all that funny or compelling of a story.

Cade H (ru) wrote: Let Us Prey was not much of a horror film but it did have plenty of thrills and fun moments to make it a quality flick. The whole movie took place inside a police station, with a few cops and some prisoners who all had a secret to hide. Over the course of the film each secret was revealed and it led to some intense character interactions and wild twists. The final 20 minutes were epic and really packed on the action, blood and gore. It was a bit slow at times but the various moments of action and intrigue, along with the ending were enough to make up for the slow points. The tone of the film was dark and serious with a little bit of supernatural thrown in. If you can forgive some of the bogged down scenes you should find enough to enjoy in Let Us Prey and the final scene makes it all worth it.
