Keith M (de) wrote: There were mainly 3 great action scenes in this movie: the kitchen fight scene, the car chase, and the final fight between Donnie Yen and Andy On. Those are the main reasons to see this movie...

Mike L (au) wrote: What a lazy film. I'm a horror advocate as well as it being my favorite genre. And I'm talking about true horror that comes from creating atmosphere and building tension and dread. Not about cheap jump scares. This movie chose to scare using atmosphere and tension over jump scares which I respect, but it was done so carelessly and poorly. Nothing in this movie was new or innovative. I guess I'm just confused because unlike the flawless tension building in movies such as Halloween, It Follows, The Babadook, The Orphanage, The Witch, Goodnight Mommy, etc this movie's tension building was far inferior. The Innkeepers shouldn't even be in those movies' radar but it was rated that way? When the few scares finally came they were decent but the tension building was just so weak that I'm questioning if in the future I should trust the tomatometer's critic reviews as highly as I always have. I would say great effort but I would be lying if I said I really believed that

Same as [Shamo], another comic-adaptation produced by the same bunch of companies in 2007, problems like rough, silly, broken-context, messy narrative & editing, annoying dubbing are still there. Quite awful, indeed.

James R (ru) wrote: Saw this at the London Film Festival recently. Typically good Ang Lee film, if a touch overlong. Tang Wei is excellent, and Tony Leung is simply one of the best actors around anywhere.

Bill R (ag) wrote: It was worth a try. Yet there were so many stars that i recognise and yet nothing just didn't fall into place like it should. Some of the story just seemed rushed and the characters weren't really worked on as well as they should. The only oine that had the best work was Ducovany's role and he seemed to be the only decent one throughout. I like everyone else but they just didn't seem completely there. Maybe there were scenes that were delted that added to everything but in the end it was just another hollywood'ized romance.
