Elias is their first born a good natured kid bullied at school, but then he befriends a new arrival, a grieving and very troubled Christian, a young man crippled by sorrow and guilt. The movie follows the endeavours of Elias in Denmark and his father abroad when both are faced against senseless violence. What I like most about this movie is the lack of stereotypes, each character is well built and has a defined personality that it forcibly evolves with each passing minute. There are no moral absolutes, no moral lines, just the story of a family trying to survive tough times. It also gives an interesting insight into the harrowing situation of Africa, the refugees, the soldiers, the scarcity of resources, the brutality of war...This is a piece of good European cinema, with believable performances and a meaningful and entertaining plot.

Loved the fact this was a true story and that the little guy does occasionally win although at great cost and this movie really conveyed the heartache and frustration suffered by this guy. I have a newfound respect for my windscreen wipers.

(ag) wrote: A good film with a ton of good actors. If the film does one thing well, its capture the period in US history. But considering the times were so rich with raw emotion and tension, the movie doesn't evoke much emotion out of me. It is however blessed with an amazing soundtrack and some great stock footage though.
(au) wrote: This old fashioned sword and horse period piece has a lot to like, but also a lot of flaws. One the one hand, it has some good characters both good and bad, and a nice visual style. However, the ending and plot have some farfetched moments that take away from the whole package. Perhaps a tighter story would make for a more compelling movie, even thought the battle scenes and villain are really cool.
(us) wrote: Offensive, racist and painfully, inexcusably, unsalvagbly unfunny, Soul Plane is probably one of the worst comedies around today that isn't related to Seltzerberg or Sandler, filled with lazy and trite jokes that amount to no more than 'LOOK AT THE CRAZY BLACK PEOPLE!', obnoxious performances and an irritatingly loud and tepid hip-hop soundtrack that serves more as a commercial for those artists than fitting or decent music.

(de) wrote: Tommy Lee Thomas gives one of the worst performances I have seen in years. He finds every excuse imaginable to take off his shirt, and often with no logical reason whatsoever. The basic plot of the film sounds good, and could have been good, but the writers and directors completely take a fine idea and screw it up totally. The film is a mess, horrendously edited.

(ru) wrote: This is so stereotypical is it absolutely hilarious- stupid frenchmen, women-obsessed Italians, stiff-upper-lip-army-officer Brits, dastardly & conieving Germans. Plus the pranks and tricks like swapping shoes around, or putting on a policemans hat so the law will let you stright past- it's all very ridiculous really but funny nevertheless.

(ru) wrote: I have enjoyed this a lot more on previous viewings. Watching it now, it feels excessively fussy and ornate for what would probably play a lot better as a simpler, more gritty film. Also, Welles accent is just atrocious and I found it distracting. All of these same considerations probably apply to "Touch of Evil", yet I think that film is brilliant. What can I say? Sometimes the difference between a masterpiece and a routine film is ineffable. The hall of mirrors climax, which certainly influenced the climax of "Enter the Dragon", is brilliant and worth the price of admission.
