This was no sillier than any other Adam Sandler movie of the last 15 years despite having several fantastical stories dreamed up by two kids and Sandler's usual laid back, wise assed but well meaning character. I surprised myself by liking this. It's not laugh out loud funny but I caught myself smiling through most of it. The language and dick jokes have been cleaned up compared to Sandler's usual output although it managed to squeeze out a fart joke. Fine by me, I'm as low brow as they come. An enjoyable, good hearted film for all ages.

Overall I thought it was a decent Doc telling us the story of 4 individuals who are all troubled by very personal demons in their lives; where the marionette theater intertwines makes the film that much more introspective in an artistic perspective.
(ca) wrote: Back when it came out and I watched it young thought it was cool...re watching it I found the acting to be over the top cheesy and so clich like. I guess the idea is kinda cool; people stuck in a burning tunnel. How it got to that point was dumb and once everyone was down there fighting for survival the cheesyness level was so over the top all the fun was taken out.

(es) wrote: The combination of Jeanne Moreau and Louis Malle make this film, a story of adultery among the bourgeois, but some of the other elements - characters and script - let it down in places.

(br) wrote: The beginning is messy, with many boring scenes and out-of-place jump scares, and there's clearly a lack of direction and some pretty bad acting by the supporting cast. However, the twist is nice, and the action picks up toward the end. There are a lot of "Oh, COME ON..." moments, but Sean Connery and Lawrence Fishburne keep in grounded and overall pretty entertaining.

(fr) wrote: Tells the story well with its own take on the fable. Despite the poor effects for its year of production, the acting and plotline makes up for any other inadequacies. This is more of the kind of acting you would see on a stage where everything is exaggerated and reading between the line is simple enough, but it is done well.
