After leaving the urban legend of Honey Island Swamp, she walks into the town's local police station while holding a shot gun on one hand and someone's scalp on the other only to be taken down again. Of course, the police in charge doesn't believe her and they locked her up while they check swamp where many people were hacked to death. Female Reporter, Amanda (Caroline Williams) who's the cops ex, African American Deputy Winslow, and Marybeth then go an a crusade to retrieve Victor Crowley's father's ashes since that is why he's bent on killing and is hard to kill who acts like a Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and a Jason of Friday The 13th movies. For a movie that's only an hour and a half, this film has a fair amount of inventive gory scenes mixed with some sarcastic humor for they're times the heroine act like the female equivalent of Ash of the "Evil Dead" movies. It's just a film I wouldn't watch again. 2.5 out of 4 stars

Gil G (de) wrote: Stylish puzzlebox romance about Edogawa Rampo, Japan's answer to Edgar Allan Poe. in Okuyama's film, Rampo becomes infatuated with a femme fatale, who may or may not be a character he has created, and pursues her across the literary/reality divide in the person of his fictious alter-ego. Tricky material played relatively straight, through overlapping reenactments of famous Rampo stories, without any of the PoMo snarkiness of Charlie Kaufman or the bitter cynicism of Woody Allen. Definitely unique.

Les E (gb) wrote: A beautifully made film. At its time i am sure it would have been very powerful and poignant. It has now dated somewhat and many ideas that were original here have now been used elsewhere and in a better way. Still worthy though.
