Kyle B (es) wrote: Great performances across the board. I wasn't too into it until about an hour into it things got good. When they are in Russia to clarify. Like Gandhi, the movie is way too long for a plot that isn't interesting enough to stretch out. Still I enjoyed it

Although not his funniest, in a technical sense it's a high point in his film career.Never again would one of his films look this good and professional. Turn down the sound and you could almost believe you're watching one of the Hitchcock thrillers it so lovingly jibes. In years to come, Brooks' films would take on increasing elements of home movies, vanity and cronyism. And I should say, it isn't his funniest but it is pretty darn funny, and the script holds together *as a story* better than any of his films save Young Frankenstein, To Be Or Not To Be, and The Producers.
Tony P (ag) wrote: The second Hammer Dracula film starring Christopher Lee as Dracula (actually the third Dracula Hammer film).Christopher Lee doesn't utter a word throughout but his sheer presence raises the bar of an otherwise slow moving film.Basically 4 English travellers (2 couples) end up spending the night at Castle Dracula despite Dracula himself being 'killed' some 8 years prior. The film has a very 1960s feel. The two couples are annoying actors. The film suffers from the absence of Peter Cushing and a secondary actor commands his Dracula knowledge role (some local village monk). The sets are atmospheric (the interiors of Castle Dracula). The resurrection of Dracula allows some 1960s special effects to be shown off!My trawl of the many Hammer 'horror' productions continues.

Chris B (ru) wrote: Another wonderfully directed and filmed piece from Melville featuring top-rate performances from Belmondo and Riva. A wonderfully eerie and depraved setting set the tone of the morally challenging film and are beautifully captured by Melville and lived in by the actors. It's a very thought provoking film with many symbolic acts throughout that you may not even notice without referring to the commentary that is part of the Supplements. A great piece from wartime France that showcases the French Resistance and the way of life for the civilians. Highly Recommended, especially if you are a Melville fan!

Blake P (au) wrote: A classic! Bumbling baby photographer Ronnie Jackson (Hope) trades places with private eye Sam McCloud (appearance by Alan Ladd), unknown to Sam. Thinking that Jackson is a detective himself, Carlotta (Lamour) hires Ronnie to find her missing uncle. My Favorite Brunette gave Hope and Lamour a break from the "Road To. . ." series that was so popular at the time with this classic comedy. Here lies a gem, with perfect characters by the greats Peter Lorre and Lon Chaney Jr., and unknown director Elliot Nugent certainly did a good job. The thing that is just so memorable about this movie is Bob Hope's well known physical comedy. The stuttering, the falling, the non- stop action all fit this great screwball parody genre perfectly, and Dorothy Lamour certainly is great not being her usual exotic persona, and trades it off as the over-dramatic femme fatale that we all love. My Favorite Brunette is a great movie, and for those who give this movie a one- star because of the bad quality of the DVD, suck it up.
Frances H (ag) wrote: The title of Babel is so fitting for this film, since so many countries and so many languages are represented in it. And yet, despite the fact that war and violence has separated men of different countries and languages from each other since the Biblical (or mythological, depending on your religious views) event what enables tragedy to be averted here is our common thread of humanity, and the human reaction to help those in need.Common threads run through the story here, too. The girl whose father gave away the gun has lost her mother, as the children in America are in danger of losing theirs. Unsupervised children in Morocco are put in risk of their lives, as the improperly supervised American children in Mexico are at risk of theirs. Grief from the death of a family member is tearing apart the family in Japan and America. But the hopeful part is that, thanks to Moroccan villagers, a Japanese policeman, and border patrols, families are re-united again.

Jacob M (gb) wrote: This movie is the one that launched Meryl Streep into the Hollywood elite and showed the world just how talented she really is. Streep plays Miranda Priestly to perfection and Anne Hathaway isn't a slouch either in the role of Andy Sachs. The two have such great chemistry together and Andy's arch throughout the whole movie from rejecting everything Runway stands for to becoming completely absorbed in it to the realization that it would eventually cost her everything she valued is thoroughly satisfying. This film is almost on constant repeat on television and that's because this is one of those films which is a touchstone for the actors involved and will always be seen as one of the highs of their careers.

Detective Dixon has tried to live a life for justice, bringing in those who would become like his father; but like his father, he has a bad temper. His temper leads to him going too far while fighting a crook and killing him. Can he frame other criminals for the murder or will he be found guilty of the heinous crime?"I'll fix your head.""I suggest you use an ax."Otto Preminger, director of Laura, Anatomy of Murder, Exodus, The Man with the Golden Arm, Carmen Jones, A Royal Scandal, and Fallen Angel, delivers Where the Sidewalk Ends. The storyline for this picture is very unique and unpredictable. The characters are very well written and delivered and the acting was first rate. The cast includes Dana Andrews, Gene Tierney, Gary Merrill, Karl Malden, and Bert Feed."You want to see him for what he is, which is definitely a jerk."I DVR'd this picture off Turner Classic Movies (TCM) because I have become a fan of Otto Preminger. He reminds me slightly of Hitchcock the way he delivery suspense in his thrillers. This is definitely not one of his best projects, but the dynamics between characters is interesting and the main character is very unpredictable. I would recommend watching this once if you're a fan of the classics but I wouldn't add it to my DVD collection."You let me go or I'll paste you."Grade: B-
