Bill J (kr) wrote: Absolutely the BEST Laurel and Hardy feature movie they ever made! They sing, they dance... they have great dialogue... the slapstick is wonderful and their timing couldn't have been better. Stan Laurel produced this picture and paid attention to every detail. It's a gem. Free wheeling fun!
Scott M (gb) wrote: A story about a free black man who is kidnapped and re-sold into slavery during the mid 1800's. Really well acted. But I thought the story was a bit dull. I've seen this before in better movies. It needed a lot more for me to care about.
David S (it) wrote: An advocacy documentary of the highest order, and hugely influential on the muckraking documentaries of the present day. What's different here though is that, while the filmmakers juxtapose the words of someone with contradictory actions, they don't do it with solely a mean-spirited gotcha. Rather, the filmmakers are so invested in the humanity and morality of the topics they explore that they present the contradictions to underline the hypocrisy of the intentions given and to make us feel and think about those intentions.
Darrin C (de) wrote: Not all that it was hyped up to be. The plot was kinda on a whim and had what seemed to be a few random characters until the end. In this film's defense, it did get better towards the end as focus seemed to be getting better. Then the ending was rushed and senseless.
