Alex V (ru) wrote: By removing the aching empathy we have towards each of Murakami's characters, this adaption is no more than a skim-read of a novel that deserved a genuine recital. The films story is squashed together in broken clippings and lacks the woven story telling and character depth that Murakami (by contrast) delivers in waves. The portrayal of Reiko in the film was also especially disappointing for me, as well as the omission of her own story altogether. I can only assume this was ruled as nothing more than unnecessary conjecture by Tran; in a adaption where only the headlines survived the edit. The film is only saved by the quality of the acting and the beautiful cinematography throughout. Unfortunately for Tran, by having us watch this tale with our eyes rather than our minds, we were always destined to absorb only a fraction of what Murakami allowed our imaginations to see.

Joey D (es) wrote: The movie sucked. The book was a lot better.

Don S (ca) wrote: Incoherence is obvious. Charlize Theron does her usual capable performance. Jason Bateman is ok but Will Smith is over rated for a reason. The other characters carry him. This is an annoying little move that is hard to watch. The story is poorly told. Will Smith is simply wrong for the part. He hasn't done a performance the warrants A list status - ever. In his more successful movies the plot of supporting characters carry him. Nothing can carry him though this disaster. Given the number of critics ripping on this film, I would say they know what they are talking about. mediocre execution. Very weak CGI and then whose the bad guy? Weak screenplay. Starts out stronger than it finishes.

Jonathan C (au) wrote: A confusing and boring sequel that adds more questions than scares to this franchise. Donald Pleasance's final performance is the only thing that makes this worth one's attention.

Zeb E (us) wrote: BEFORE Shaq became a shitty actor... this movie is pretty damn good.

Susanna G (kr) wrote: Dirt, dirt, and more dirt. Barely tolerable - NOT one of my favourites!!!

Yusuke S (mx) wrote: The worst gay film of all I've ever watched. Just dissapointed on this, even by Gus Van Sant, who is one of my favourite directers.

Senor C (br) wrote: I hadn't seen Private Benjamin for awhile & I was hoping that seeing it again it would rival Stripes. If it had stuck to it's guns & stuck to being an Army Brat comedy it may have but about half way through Hawn looks for romance & the laughs dry up. I guess this is more of a story of a girl looking for the perfect orgasm. The first half is good though & Eileen Brennan supplies some real comedy. Sadly she all but disappears. Harry Dean Stanton could have stood to be in this more (I fucking love Harry Dean Stanton) & Goldie Hawn has such a gilded ass she should have shown it off. Still Hawn's 2nd best movie behind Foul Play

Art S (ag) wrote: Solid entry in the Dick Tracy series but with Morgan Conway taking a turn as the homicide detective. This time, Dick is in pursuit of a gang of jewel thieves who spend all of their time double-crossing each other. Cueball may be low man on the totem pole but he's grit and grunt enough to knock off all of his colleagues. Of course, Tracy tracks him down in the end and he meets a gruesome death. The characterizations in small parts are interesting enough - although not really comic-book-like - to hold one's attention for an hour. Nothing more to be said. Other serials have stronger entries and lasted longer (on the big screen) but this was fine on a rainy night with a cold.

Ethan H (ru) wrote: Kingsley single handedly saved this film from being an absolute disaster.

Paul F (au) wrote: Unlike everyone else, I loved this movie, up until the rushed, quick cut ending... what a pity, a bitter farewell .
