Greg W (ag) wrote: nicely shot historical/period drama and lil slow but the use of B&W/color was not lost on me!

Tony S (au) wrote: I loved this movie. it was a slow starter but once it got rolling I thought it was a good movie.

Benjamin L (kr) wrote: this is kind of one those overtly obvious "life is a coincidence, look how fantastical our situation is, but everything will work out in the end because life is really about hope and love and everything" new, ultra realist films, BUT it has jean pierre cassel in it, and jesus, he's a fucking legend.

Alysia V (de) wrote: This movie is worth watching, simply for Damian Lewis' performance as William Keane. He virtually carries this film on his own and does a brilliant job doing so. You find yourself sort of riveted by his constant mumbling and anxiety. He really does portray losing his mind in a very realistic and believeable way. Damian Lewis really needs to star in more roles because he seriously impressed me in this. Abigail Breslin is great, as well, and I believe really is "one to watch." It's a rather slow paced film and is shot in a very gritty, low budget, indie sort of fashion. It's not for everyone and I can't even say it's a film I'd care to watch again, but it's certainly one to see once, simply for the superb acting.

Michael M (kr) wrote: What we have here is essentially a standard slasher movie with a twist that is admittedly damn intriguing. The idea of death itself being the killer rather than an unstoppable shark like Freddy or Jason is actually pretty terrifying. Jason may be immortal and unstoppable, but he doesn't have the power of the whole freaking universe like death does, the ability to make everything in your environment a hazard. That's actually pretty scary, and one of the movies strong points. Despite this, it never feels quite as scary as it could. Tense sure, thrilling even, but not scary. The characters are all pretty clichd cartoon versions of people, but they get the job done, and I was at least somewhat invested in seeing them survive. The death scenes, which is really why people see these things, are pretty creative and the unique premise gives them a chance to do some intriguing stuff with them. It's an enjoyable movie, maybe not as good as it could have been, but about as good as what they sought out for it to be.

Armando B (mx) wrote: It's not as bad as people are saying, great performance by Theron and Oswalt, I've never seen Oswalt in such deep role, and of course Theron is always great. Unfortunaty the story is bad, the back story of Therons character is completely missing what happen between high school and now? what was the deal with her ex husband ? and the ending is complete dull, the middle was great, directing was great, the flow of the story pulls this movie down. So for this being my thoughts about this movie, I give "Young Adult" a solid C.
