Angela's Ashes

Based on the best selling autobiography by Irish expat Frank McCourt, Angela's Ashes follows the experiences of young Frankie and his family as they try against all odds to escape the poverty endemic in the slums of pre-war Limerick. The film opens with the family in Brooklyn, but following the death of one of Frankie's siblings, they return home, only to find the situation there even worse. Prejudice against Frankie's Northern Irish father makes his search for employment in the Republic difficult despite his having fought for the IRA, and when he does find money, he spends the money on drink.

Tu Bhaag Milkha! :DThe movie's first race in which Milkha Singh triumphs was against a Pakistani and the story ends with the same cliche! Except for that and many other reasons (too many dance numbers, sonam kapoor, etc) the movie was a nice watch. Farhan's hard work and Pawan Malhotra's delighful performance saves the day.Little over hyped and extremely long!

Matt C (nl) wrote: Awful, awful, awful...Just because a film is in French it doesn't automatically give it more merit. It's such powder puff nonsense it makes 'Made in Dagenham' look like a hard core political thriller by comparison. Utter dirge.

Andrew D (de) wrote: saw this when it came out 30+ years back- tight flick w a great soundtrack, very much of its era-- if you're looking for big US style bang bang this ain't it, but if you dig Brit gangster movies w style and tension, give it a go.

James H (ag) wrote: Just because of the rotten tomatoes rating doesn't mean you should get the impression that this is a terrible movie. You can probably enjoy it the one time but if you analyse it the villains are incredibly incompetent (when you consider that an overweight security guard took out all of them). It is also very predictable because of how the movie follows the plot of Die Hard very closely, (you'll understand what I mean if you've seen Die Hard 1 and 2). I found the movie very boring up until the part where the mall gets taken over. Then I found it harmlessly silly and very fun, I liked Kevin James in this along with most of the cast. A decent one time watch.

Aqua H (it) wrote: This is by far the best movie made by Mel Brooks. Gene Wilder is excellent in the role of the descendant of Dr Frankenstein. And the fact that it was made in Back & White just helps create the ultimate finish to a horror spoof.

RajanSatish P (jp) wrote: This movie lacks the emotion and the sentiment that it tries to bring in and even Daniel Craig could not stop this movie from failing big time

Joe P (it) wrote: Not sure one could label this movie a comedy, though I was amused by the antics of the principle character. I thought Raunch carried that character's personality perfectly. Would I recommend this to a friend: absolutely, but only if he/she were pretty broad-minded. One thing about the 'Tomatometer' (Critic's evaluations), you can discount it completely. These guys couldn't possibly make a living in any other venue, they're so out of touch with the audience. If you don't like crude and lewd or you're a prude, don't watch this movie. If you appreciate a bit of shock value, enjoy.

Brad S (au) wrote: I had seen this one before, but didn't remember any of it. I loved it, the fact that it's based on a true story makes it even better. It would make a great double-bill with "The Shawshank Redemption". Burt Lancaster is outstanding in this. Seek this one out!
