Graham J (au) wrote: Read a better book on this than this 'hollywood' version. Great scenery. Poor acting, usual 8 year old script. Group that wants to survive but heads towards disaster! Recovers with unlikely luck and stupid bravo. Ed Harris is awful. 50's American drive in movie hero (think Rocky too) unsuited to today's cinema.

Sophan P (de) wrote: Few documentaries can claim to be THE definitive take on anything. But, this THE definitive documentary about L.A. as both a city and a fiction in film. The narrator threads together movies, filmic and social movements, local history, urban planning and an Angeleno's inside knowledge to give you an exhaustively-detailed look at his city. He may deliver his knowledge bombs in a droll, even curmudeonly PhD-inflected voice, but you don't doubt for a second that this man knows every inch of L.A. as exists in either celluloid or actual concrete. This isn't just the greatest documentary about L.A., it might just be the greatest documentary about movies too.

The wartime films suffer because of their insistence on waxing poetic about truth and justice and such. And, like Voice of Terror, still overkills the whole "mud on your shoe tells your life story" bit that Holmes is so famous for. I've noticed that there's more of that sort of thing in the earlier ones- and I still haven't seen the earliest two, so my theory may not bear itself out.

Jayakrishnan R (kr) wrote: 92%Watched this on 19/1/15Directed by Oliver Stone, written by Quentin Tarantino, Natural Born Killers is one of the most stylishly insane and violent movies that I have ever seen. At first I was irritated by the cinematography, then I became at peace with it. It's well acted and has most of it's cast in pulpy roles, the best being Robert Downey Jr and Tommy Lee Jones. This film really loves violence.
