(au) wrote: I found this movie more appealing while watching than afterwards upon reflection. Henry Poole has a terminal illness (though you can't tell by looking at him). He's bitter and withdrawn. He buys a house, a smudge appears on the stucco, his neighbors think the smudge is the face of Jesus, and miracles (maybe) happen. Henry doesn't like it. "Henry" is better than most indie dramas, though it does rely on those annoying musical introspective interludes. It's enjoyable, well-acted, and, if you're of a mind, sure to generate a little discussion following. Recommended. (By the way, this is not a comedy no matter what Netflix or RT tells you.)

(au) wrote: Terrible movie. It was hard to figure out what this movie was about because it was all over the place. The only thing this movie had going for it was a few decent looking women. Even that's debatable. It tries too hard to be funny and ends up being annoying. Avoid.
(br) wrote: Forget Mean Girls. Really. Mean Girls was a Hollywood take on a subject that they made to be more comedic than serious. The villains are hysterical and almost cartoonish. Here, the villains are very real and this hits VERY close to home showing that to those who have actually experienced this, there is NOTHING funny about the experience whatsoever.I started watching this saying, "Okay, let's see how BAD this is..." because let's face it, it's a Lifetime movie, but I was HOOKED. It's that good a portrayal of the subject. In fact, it makes Mean Girls look like the cheap knock-off, not the other way around. There are still some Lifetime bad production choices - the wig one character wears is horrendous. Looks nothing like real hair. The wardrobe choices of having popular girls wear short tennis skirts while walking in formation, the bitchy Stacy at the front of the pack? No. Real mean girls don't walk in obvious holding patterns throughout the school.Other than these few silly blunders, the acting is decent, the script is good, and I had that same feeling in the pit of my stomach that I used to feel in high school...that "I CAN'T go to school tomorrow...I just CAN'T" feeling. I don't think my mother was anywhere near as supporting as this mother was when I was going through all this. She was angry with ME for not being tougher and standing up for myself. What she did not understand was that standing up for myself was only going to make the problem worse. In this movie, the girl has allies in her mother and another friend. This isn't always the case in real life. Most kids, unfortunately, run the other way when they see another kid being bullied or worse, they join in. They know sticking their neck out for that kid means they are next on the target list. This helps this girl get through and provides the ending that would be the prerequisite to finish this movie in the first place. For many kids, they feel completely alone and they don't see the situation ever improving. As a once-victim of this type of behavior throughout my entire time in high school, I can say that you never get over what they did to you. It will impact your relationships with others for many, many years to come. However, most kids in this situation learn to cope by learning to enjoy their own company and only depending on themselves or only becoming friends with the opposite gender, who tend to be more accepting. Guys also experience this type of bullying, which nobody wants to talk about. I have seen guys emotionally manipulate and exclude each other in much the same ways and this has only increased. This movie doesn't focus on the overwhelming majority who end up becoming comfortable in their status as "loner" and goes for the neat, tidy finish. In the end, female friendships preside and when the lead character says, "You have nothing I want" she's lying. She wanted female friendships. You'll see how that ends up. So yes, clichs abound, but the succession of events hurts just as much to go through in the eyes of another as it did when I went through it myself. Very painful, raw, emotionally wrenching reminder from high school.

(fr) wrote: What a wonderful satirical musical comedy! Fantastic cast (love Annette Funicello) and all the guest stars! I truly feel sorry for the ppl who do not understand this movie. You must have a sad pathetic existence. Do you know what satire is? This movie is fun, funny, irreverent, at times inept, but that's the beauty of it. I really enjoyed how they blended the 80's time period with the classic 60's beach era...beautifully done! Its just a great time...and if you somehow can't crack a smile watching this film then you don't deserve to live...lol j/k...or am I? ;)

(br) wrote: This is literally the worst movie I have ever seen. What makes it so bad is the obvious effort and craftsmanship involved. It's beautifully shot but evidently the writer sat down with the intent of writing original characters and came up instead with the most tired, predictable stereotypes. The protagonist is a horrible person and yet Manic Pixie Dream Girl falls for him...why?? Also one of the most sexist movies I've seen., so it wasn't just tortuously bad, it was also incredibly offensive to me as a woman. Owen Wilson, who FYI is WAY too "unclassically handsome" to be believably cast as TV anchor, telling an unconventially attractive woman "you're no Miss America" and then kissing her on the cheek while she gushes appreciatively is just one of the myriad moments that was utterly stomach turning. Horrible, horrible, horrible.
(it) wrote: I like it,but at the same time this film fails to live up to the best of it's ability with a dream team.
(nl) wrote: So friggin awesome! It's like Goonies with adults. So classic. The Blu-Ray is so great too.
(ag) wrote: With such a strong cast this film should of been much better, The plot was simple but over complicated, The action was good but very OTT but very gory too, The acting wasn't great but Russell Crowe makes this film watchable, A kung fu movie with a hip hop soundtrack didn't work and made the film feel cheap, RZA should stick to music as he can't act or direct and does not fit in this movie one bit, Overall it's ok action may just be enough to entertain but everything else fails miserably.
