(nl) wrote: Pam's Quick-takes - Just A QuickieToys In The Attic, a euphemisms for insanity, was written by Lillian Hellman, the screenwriter who brought us The Little Foxes.Lacking the some of the subtlety and thus the dreadful tedium of Tennessee Williams's work, this duplication of his style is a delightfully to-the-point, steamy pot-boiler of a southern tragedy, with some satisfyingly sharp, memorable dialog. Not afraid to go down the line and let something juicy transpire, I found it good fun, with an enjoyably creepy ending. Incestuous desire, shady business deals, jealousy, shocking violence and a dark salacious storyline that's just short of sensational. make it everything a Tennessee Williams play should be. I thought Dean Martin was very good and credible in his role, but I agree with one reviewer at imdb who suggested that George Hamilton wold have been better cast. Hamilton's skill at playing shady, villainous sleaze-balls would have been well-placed here, however Martin's good natured manner is better suited to the lead's reconciliatory demeanor.

(kr) wrote: Very cool, slick, keeps-you-guessing plot, terrific cinematography and production values, and very good, very subtle acting by Jeremy Northam makes this a great thriller. What else would you expect from the director of Cube, a film I also loved. I am surprised there wasn't more buzz about this film when it debuted. A fun watch.
