Dave C (ag) wrote: Children of Invention is a slice of life flick that's low on substance and high on filler.Children of Invention is the story of a Chinese immigrant with two kids who gets in on get rich quick schemes to try and get rich... Quickly. She, like most people, soon finds out that this is a stupid idea, and drama ensues.I can really appreciate what was attempted here, but the fact is, I was bored and squirming throughout most of it, especially the first half. Not a whole lot happens for the first 45 minutes. At the halfway point, an actual plot point occurs, and it's actually a really interesting one, too. The mother gets arrested for participating in the pyramid scheme and her kids are left alone to fend for themselves until she's released. What ensues is genuinely good. There are some genuinely interesting moments, but unfortunately very few of them carry any weight. It's a great idea that just wasn't realized very well. To make matters worse, the film simply ends when you'd expect there to be a big revelatory moment followed by some scenes with closure. Instead, it ends halfway through a half-assed revelatory moment. I get the whole slice of life thing, but this was a story that demanded closure, and it didn't give me any.Not worth seeing.

Basically a good drama that was transferred from a play to the big screen. This has all the elements to be an excellent drama. John Madden who has directed several excellent films before is just perfect to handle this cast and this story. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of go or movement in Proof. Excellent acting by the whole cast and honestly nothing that should be lacking. But for this feature, there seems to be something lacking to keep the flow and rhythm on an even keal. I have a feeling the script writer of the original play should have altered or added to the story. I guess it is just a misfire of transfer from one medium to another. I will say that I did enjoy the movie. If you've gotten this far in my short review, there was just something missing to make it a great movie. I wish it had been.
Kevin R (au) wrote: Nuclear power is clean, safe, and efficientA high school near a power plant is terrorized by a group of cretins that misbehave, sell drugs, and bully the students. The cretins purchase the drugs they sell from power plant workers. The power plant is unsafe and nuclear waste drips on the weed the suppliers sell. The kids smoking the weed have strange side effects after smoking it. Random violence starts occurring all around the school. Is the violence due to the weed or the cretins?"I don't give a wet fart what you think!"Richard Haines, director of Splatter University, Alien Space Avenger, Run for Cover, Unsavory Characters, and Soft Money, delivers Class of Nuke 'em High. The storyline for this picture is fairly ridiculous but fun to follow in a Night of the Comets kind of way. The acting was mediocre but the make-up was excellent and the action scenes were fun. The cast includes Janelle Brady, Gil Brenton, Robert Prichard, and Anthony Ventola."He looks a little messed up to me."Okay, so this movie definitely isn't "good;" however, it is entertaining and unpredictable. It was better than C.H.U.D, in my opinion, but better than some of the Toxic Avengers pictures. Overall, this isn't a movie I would add to my DVD collection but it is worth watching ever so often."God bless America, limp dick!"Grade: C

This is a plain and simple plot that would usually be boring but isn't however due to the corny and bad jokes laced throughout. This film features appearances from Roy Orbison, Alice Cooper, Blondie & Hank Williams Jr.
