What begins within a familiar framework of woven cliches tips over into black comedy only to push further beyond the boundaries. The humour swiftly flees into the unsettling. At times It feels like what can only be described as a stroke, but then everything swirls and builds into crescendos of brilliance you simply do not encounter elsewhere in cinema. The first 15 minutes of the film is an underwhelming and slightly odd TV movie. You are left wondering if you can bare to sit through it if it remains there. It does not. Within the following half hour, things calmly elevates beyond it's genesis. Baffling tangents jump in and out, returning and leaving again without warning. By an hour in, everything is dancing. All that is left is to sit in wonder. Poetry in motion.

In the end, the way the story is presented is just too dull it becomes uninteresting and unremarkable. I think he's explored similar ideas better in many other of his fims: Off the top of my head, at least Hannah and Her Sisters, The Purple Rose of Cairo, and Midnight in Paris.

(ca) wrote: Directed by Tom Tykwer, Heaven was surely another more of Blanchett's great pieces of work. Visual it was stunning and the screenplay was hard to beat. Blanchett and Ribisi had a perfect chemistry and the storyline was there from the beginning, even though it started a little slow paced. The last half hour wasn't that dramatic as the first half, but it showed why, they were busy forming their connections. The concerned of being caught was there, but personally I was more interested in seeing them discover their love despite the stressful circumstance they were in. I was not familiar with Tykwer movies, but this one had all the elements of a basic thriller making it deep, uplifting and with unexpected twist.
