Frances H (nl) wrote: Well acted by a group of young actors who would go places, in an excellent screenplay that exposes a story based on a true incident, and shows the inhumanity and brutalizing influence of war, but doesn't let the perpetrators off the hook for that. In the real incident, all of the soldiers raped the girl, but that would have been too much for a movie audience, who would have to have a hero. It was true that all the guilty got off with lighter sentences than those to which they had been condemned. What the note at the end doesn't say was that the real soldier who was "Clark" in this film, who stabbed the girl, was later implicated and found guilty in the murder of a black soldier on a ship.

Adrian Z (de) wrote: A film surely made for Efron's undiscerning teen fans, in which cloying sentimentality takes hold right off the bat and relentlessly beats viewers over the head with it. Add to this a lame supernatural element, and a definitive lack of narrative thrust, and you have, besides girlie money in the coffers, an exercise in pointlessness. Efron plays the titular character, who hangs out with the ghost of his dead brother until 5 years later a girl comes into the picture, with a very predictable outcome.

Adam R (us) wrote: "This sixth Star Trek? film has so much more life and interest than the dreary Star Trek V: The Final Frontier? that perhaps it will tempt Paramount into still another story for Captain Kirk and his crew." (Roger Ebert)

Tori H (gb) wrote: This is certainly a "gripping thriller" if you find yourself regularly enthralled by scotch tape. There's plenty of eye candy for the period piece enthusiast, but, unfortunately, a plot that makes murder and espionage seem pale and boring.
