(it) wrote: First things first...stay the Hell away from Arkansas! Secondly, this documentary is one of the best (and infuriating) that I have ever seen! The West Memphis Three were victims of a failed justice system and dumb-ass hick politicians. The evil of the system keeps everyone from truly ever having a happy ending.

(au) wrote: In one word, boring. When nothing happens in a movie it's hard to keep the audience's attention. I could have left after the first ten minutes then came back for the last ten minutes and wouldn't have missed anything from the plot. Freddie Prinze Jr. displays just how poor of an actor he really is and Taryn Manning competes with him to see who can do a worse job. There were a couple funny scenes with Peter Stebbings, but you can't justify watching a movie for 1hr 27min for just a couple scenes. Skip this one unless your ADD is acting up and you need something to bore you senseless.

(jp) wrote: One of my favorite ways to learn about history is through movies. I know that is horrible, because liberties are taken to get the story across, but this movie was excellent. Liam Neeson does an excellent job portraying Michale Collins and the overall story is fantastic. Julia Roberts was an odd choice, but it worked, and Alan Rickman as De Valera was a great choice. More movies should be made about the Northern Ireland conflict. Get the history out there.

(br) wrote: This is a grossly underrated movie, and despite the numerous concessions and occasional historical inaccuracies ( obviously intentional, to build suspense within the plot) , it stands well when compared to far more well known films about great artists. Liszt's relationship with struggling composers such as Wagner, his generosity ( understated here), devout Catholicism, popularity ( comparable to a Sinatra or Springsteen) , and more, are accurately depicted. To judge the film in light of present tastes, when sexual license overwhelmingly predominates over religious devotion, is puerile and foolish. Likewise, while nothing has changed in true passion between men and women over the centuries, how people conduct themselves in public certainly has. If you love 19th century history and culture, be prepared for a real treat. Do some historical research if you like, but avoid reading too many reviews. Elegance and grace are out of style now, and were slowly going out of style in 1961.
