(gb) wrote: A great documentary that is basically a series of interviews with pimps who have prostitutes in different major US cities. This was really insightful into their way of life. "Ive never seen a White pimp," said one of the interviewees, "they just don't have the mindset." And it showed. Another aged pimp said that the only reason pimping is illegal is because White guys just cannot do it. I have never known anyone like these people; so cold, yet at the same time so charming. Nearly all admitted to needing to use violence to keep their women in order and they were routinely referred to as "bitches" and other derogatory names. The prostitutes that were interviewed, when they were allowed to speak were ridiculous in their own right. Justifying being beaten and seemingly obsessed with making their pimp happy no matter how badly he treats her. It boggles my mind that that the ghetto mind-set is daily glorified in pop culture and girls, even middle-class White girls, actually enjoy being treated the way they do. Surprising to me, its not like the prostitute and pimp split by a certain percentage; the pimp gets it all and then decides in the woman's worth getting anything back for bills, family, child, etc. Since the average prostitute doesn't last more than 2 years (drug addition, prison, disease, and even insanity were mentioned as the typical reasons for such a short career), the pimps talked of how recruitment is a big part of the job. Knowing where the teenage runaways gather in different cities is important in keeping the business going. Sounds like a good reason to pay attention to what your daughters are listening to and spending their time doing. There was no commentary, or "you are supposed to think this way" kind of narration - the video lets the watcher makes the decisions for morality for themselves. For me, it is clear, this culture is not at all conducive to proper society, though I am sure the multicultis will tell us differently since this "all cultures are equal". Its not that prostitution is wrong, in fact it should be legalized. There wouldn't be the domination and control issues which cause all of the problems with the street hookers if it were - Nevada has it right. Also to note, there was a pimp named Rosebudd with "two d's for a double-dose of pimpin'" and another pimp named Upgrade. Some of you may recognize that.

(mx) wrote: Certainly one of the better underground giallos out there. Most of the time the pace of these films doesn't move all that fast. They tend to crawl but this one just flat out runs. There's a point in the middle when things slow down, but overall, it had a terrific pace to it. It's also to see a giallo where nearly all of the plot threads are tied up and seem to make sense. The performances aren't spectacular and the music isn't very good, but the pace of the entire thing makes up for all of its flaws. There isn't a high amount of gore or really murders that stand out, but I liked it quite a bit. It's also nice to see American actors instead of all Italians for a change, too.
(au) wrote: This was a fascinating movie. It is extremely slow paced but gradually builds in tension to the climax and a rather annoying ending. This film resonated in my mind long after watching it; the golden hue of the film was at first annoying but soon added to the overall feel of the film. When Anacleto paints the golden peacock 'in whose eye the world is a mere reflection' it all begins to make sense, and the golden colour of this film becomes an essential component of the film. The performances are all wonderful, Taylor is quite subdued until the final scene. She holds a firm control on her character as does Brando as his character teeters on the issue of homosexuality. We are told at the start of the film that a murder was committed so we eagerly watch to discover who, where and why and although it becomes obvious who it will be it is a slow journey to discover why and the ending though ultimately satisfying is let down somewhat by a day time soap feel as Taylor shrieks her lungs off and the camera moves speedily between the three characters in the room a few too many times. Apart from that an enjoyable and certainly different movie experience from what I have been watching lately.

(gb) wrote: I don't know why so many people dislike this movie. I think the only bad thing about this was some of the characters, but overall this is a fun film with a very good message.
(ca) wrote: Overall the movie is great but the ending where the train catches on fire is unrealistic.

(br) wrote: a nicely done movie showing a different side of the 1960s. everyone does a great job acting, Howard especially, I just hated her character but it was for good reasons. Davis was also a stand out performance in the all star cast. the only issue was, I felt it was a bit on the lengthy side. sure everything shown was important but when the last act hit I was almost ready for it to be done. aside from that, it was a good movie.
