Dillinger P (nl) wrote: From the director who brought us the unsettling documentary Cropsey, Josh Zeman, comes his new outing Killer Legends, funnily enough inspired by the events of Cropsey. For those of you who havent seen Cropsey, its an unsettling look at an old mental institute in American, where teenagers have now created an urban legend about a man named Cropsey, who used to be a member of the asylum and kidnapped children. Within the documentary Josh and his researcher tried to find if there was any truth in this and ultimately found something a lot more dark and sinister at play. So after making that film, he has now decided to look into other urban legends in a bid to cover their origins and find out if there is really any truth behind these scary and unsettling stories. For this film he delegates his time to just 4 legends, the story of the Phantom Killer, the Trick or Treat murder, The Babysitter with the man upstairs and finally the Killer Clown. All of these are unsettling enough but i do love how in his investigations he manages to uncover even more unsettling truths. Its full of suspense and genuine moments of unease, much like Cropsey. Josh is clearly an up and coming documentary film maker, however there are still some issues he needs to clear up. His films although extremely interesting and connecting are at points falsely heightened with scares at points, its not a crippling thing but it always leads to a sense of deflation knowing his inclusion of irrelevant scares has absolutely nothing to do with the source material. He also seems to gloss over subject matter sometimes and dismissing certain subjects, instead of being a ruthless documentarian. It is a tough job, you need to put your feelings aside and freeze your heart stone cold in order to get results and although he does show the makings of this, he feels like hes yet to perfect the art. Its a gut wrenching and interesting film none the less that also finishes on a satisfying and logical conclusion. Its not essential viewing material and a lot of people may be unsettled by the content, but for those of you with a taste for the dark and horrendous, Killer Legends is definately going to wet your appetite.

Brandon S (jp) wrote: I love the atmosphere and visually it isn't bad, but I got this sinking feeling that I wasn't going to be satisfied by the surely impending plot twist as the movie went on, and sure enough I wasn't.

Joshua R (mx) wrote: This movie got the noir settings and the comic adaptation really well done. It really felt as a straight up comic in movement, the movie is a really dark and grim world but the characters on it are really interesting to watch, the mood and the way it flow are as good as the graphic novel, which if you had read you'll see are pretty much the same but on movement, which at the time, it was a great thing to see on screen. This movie is violent and intense but good overall.
Alex K (au) wrote: Great setting well acted, great cast, creepy feel to the hole film. However this film comes across as a horror when it isn't that scary. But the ending is really good.
Barney o (nl) wrote: WHAT I LIKED: There's no doubt a hat must be tipped to James Cameron for delivering something as original yet wholely well-realised as this. Yes 'Avatar's' incredible world-building (aided by ground-breaking visual effects) and in-depth characters bring its experience to life extremelly well, and the result is a place that feels so real, yet so fantastic at the same time. Thankfully it doesn't loose its intent either, as it's able to delve into some interesting ideas, and keep a visual gasp waiting round every corner.WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It feels very long indeed; too long in fact, and that's mostly because the story loses a lot of drive once it gets in deep.VERDICT: An impressively fleshed out - if dragged out - piece of film making from a guy who most definitely knows what he's doing.
