Matt H (es) wrote: A slow moving film for sure, but rewarding in its quality. The period detail here is amazing and beautifully realized, The whole film is photographed beautifully, and fully immerses us into the world that Maria takes her photos in. A "small" story we often don't get to see, Everlasting Moments starts a little slowly, as a character piece builds up into a well done movie.

Ashish T (us) wrote: The core premise is quite interesting, with a lot of subtext into the US' attitude towards immigration as seen from the other side - this is not a movie that would ever emerge from Hollywood or or a story be appreciated by a US audience - but it's decent, interesting, and gets into details intelligently and sensitively. There's a lot of American-baiting as well, if you catch it, especially when it comes to the TV programs. The acting is good - Luis Pena and Leonor Varela are really, really good in the delivery of their characters, and the setting, environments, and characters are very, very spot-on. The ending is where it gets let down, a little; maybe we've been spoiled by the Hollywood concept of the climax having to be the most epic ever - but this one keeps with the movie's little people, little problems, and little solutions being a microcosmic representation of a larger issue. It still feels a little forced, a little unrealistic, though. All in a ll, a nice, subversive experience.

Eric H (gb) wrote: Heaven is a beautiful and thought-provoking film. The cinematography is absolutely stunning, with many breathtaking images. The beautiful Italian countryside is highlighted by some striking aerial photography. The screenplay by Kieslowski is interesting, complex, and subtle. Cate Blanchette mores Phillippa Paccard, a goodhearted schoolteacher who is driven to murder. When things go awry, she is arrested and questioned. The movie follows her evolution through hate and revenge, to horror and repentance, and finally to love and understanding. She gives a riveting and complex performance. The movie is a welcome alternative to the usual Hollywood fare, the but be prepared for a relatively slow pace. You will be rewarded.
