(br) wrote: DOUBLE INDEMNITY? PICNIC? Naw, it's ultimately a garish, Z-grade FREAKS ripoff. Notable for saturated 60s color, hilarious jump edits and fight scenes (how many bad slaps can YOU count?), and go-nowhere scenes of carnival load ins and outs.
(kr) wrote: Based on Cesare Pavese's novella, this film examines the complex interplay and emotional intensity of relations between a bourgeois group of women. The pervasive cynicism within the novella is concentrated in Momina's character. The film also emphasizes the burgeoning and evolving role of the independent woman. This early work shows the development of Antonioni's unique framing and narration methods, particularly in the beach scene. It's rare to have an ensemble cast deliver such strong performances!

(kr) wrote: Extremely dated film still is entertaining because of Alan Ladd and Bendix and their chemistry. Many stereotypes for the Chinese that are portrayed, but generally a film sympathetic to China. Interesting as a historical soap. (in real life, the guy would have sold the gas to the Japanese).
