Bill Sackter struggles to cope after his best friend and guardian, Barry Morrow and his wife Beverly move away. Bill moves into a group home run by Mae Driscoll who teaches him how to read. Bill soon discovers his religious heritage, overcoming the fire that accidentally destroyed his small canteen business, and then travels to California to search for the Morrows.

On sait que les Asiatiques ont souvent le chic pour concocter des Super-Heros qui accuseraient bien 40 ans de retard dans un contexte occidental, et les Thailandais ne semblent pas encore prets de rivaliser avec les Japonais en matiere d'outrance et d'auto-derision. L'Aigle Rouge est donc un Vigilante masque en collant et masque rouge, sans pouvoirs particuliers mais qui prend sa mission tres au serieux en depit d'une serieuse accoutumance a la morphine et d'un interet marque pour les methodes expeditives, quelque chose qui doit ressembler a ce qu'etait "Le Frelon vert" a sa grande epoque avant son relookage potache par Michel Gondry. Si on est agreablement surpris des les premieres minutes par la franche violence de l'individu et par des effets speciaux soignes, "Red eagle" vire rapidement a la debandade. La symbiose contre-nature de problematiques ecologiques, de diatribes politiques et securitaires, de romance guimauve, d'ultra-violence et d'humour a deux balles est typique de cette categorie du cinema asiatique mais cette fois, le melange se montre particulierement indigeste. Plus qu'un film, il s'agit d'un coup de sonde grossier (double d'un furieux placement de produits Suzuki) en vue de calibrer au mieux la probable franchise qui s'ensuivra. La preuve, la film s'arrete comme ca, brutalement, avec l'Aigle Rouge accroche a un helicoptere, sans qu'aucun element du scenario ne soit resolu. Pour decouvrir si ce heros de seconde zone sera a la hauteur de sa tache, il faudra donc attendre la suite. Ou pas...

However, with every minute that passed, I found myself more and more intrigued, sucked in by the great aspects of the movie that I couldn't deny.Based on two novels by Patrick O'Brian, Master and Commander centers around Captain Jack Aubrey (Russell Crowe) and his command of the ship the HMS Surprise. After spotting a renegade French ship, Aubrey and his crew embark on a mission to intercept the ship and take it out.Yes, there were some things I didn't like about the film, but I think that was more of me trying to settle in to actually allow myself to enjoy it. Once I resigned myself fully, I couldn't get enough. Don't believe me, give it a shot and find out!I'm a fan of solid endings, especially one with a slight twist. Master and Commander achieves that and further succeeds by ending on just the right note. The movie could have gone on for another twenty minutes but director Peter Weir was clever in knowing that it didn't need to.There's way more to love about this movie than just the ending, though. The beginning is just as strong as it takes you immediately into action. Solid visualizations give you a feel for the action right as its happening, making it somehow seem like you're there on the HMS Surprise too. Finally, the film seems to have a great depiction of what it's like to live and fight on a warship. It's literally all hands on deck as the kids are just as involved as the adults. Call me twisted, but it definitely put a smile on my face watching a kid, who could have passed for seven, bust a cap in one of Napoleon's goons. Good stuff.You'll have to excuse me for not watching this sooner. In 2003, I was a nineteen-year-old kid stuck in my own movie world, obsessed with films like The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Amazing movie, but also a safe bet. As I'm starting to come out of my comfort zone, I'm happy to stumble upon movies like Master and Commander. I can see now why it gave Return of the King such a run for its money at the Oscars. Not quite as good, but definitely great in its own right. I give it an 89.

(nl) wrote: The second part of the Trilogy of Life shows Pasolini's comical assumption about England during the medieval era. The costumes, the store, and the sendoff to Chaplin are the only saving graces in this film and that really is not enough to recommend.

Yes, it is preachy, full of clich (C)s, and the general storyline is something you(TM)ve seen before. However, that is all understandable. Marlon Brando and Anthony Quinn(TM)s terrific performances basically carry the film. I can(TM)t say I(TM)ve seen several films of that era, but I did not expect a Kazan film to be as violent, which added some realism in portraying the life of the Mexican revolutionary. Fairly enjoyable to watch, a number of hilarious sequences, some not meant to be.

(br) wrote: Complex, entertaining, dramatic, mysterious. Based on David Auburn's Pulitzer-winning play, "Proof" is an entertaining drama that makes you think. It also helps that the performances are great all-around.
