Andrew V (br) wrote: Startling and imaginative movie that sets a disturbing tone from the beginning that only keeps increasing as the film progresses.Unhinged feeling is maintained via framing and the great acting. In the end, some of the themes and allegories snapped into place, which is a sign of a good writing.

Eli B (gb) wrote: Good film to watch if you want too see the history of a different culture with compelling enough characters based on real life people to make the journey fun. Enjoyable watch.

Clayton E (kr) wrote: This movie -- in its simplicity and immersion into the daily life of the Carthusian monks -- was like going on a retreat. I watched it in twenty minute segments... struck by the sense of beauty in a solitude that is lived in the presence of God. The fact that this film was largely without words allowed the audience to experience the life of this community in a way that no commentary would have revealed.

Daniel S (it) wrote: I recently saw the rules of attraction, also based off an easton ellis novel, and i loved that, so i checked this one out, which is somewhat well known, sadly this is nowhere near the same level as "rules" both have despicable characters, but rules knew it and made no apologies for them and embraced their depravity, whereas this tries to make them still good people and the result is awful, i didnt care about any of them, and they all made stupid decisions, frankly i was rooting for the drug dealer spader, he was the only one with any character, plus uncle jack from breaking bad is his bodyguard! i will say it has some good shots and the score by thomas newman is way better than it deserves

Raji K (gb) wrote: Sylvester Stallone stars in the futuristic sci-fi action film Judge Dredd. Large concentrations of population and the lack of food and resources have resulted in large densities of crime. A new program has resulted in human soldiers that have the ability to be judge jury and executioner. Judge Dredd is one of the best in his field, but at times his judgement is in question as he seems to want to kill first and ask questions later. A council of individuals determine the law, trains new cadets to be justice, but even the head of the council wonders if the program they have created is truly the best for the people. The program's sense of justice is in question, but to make matters worse Judge Dredd is framed for murder. His friend Judge Hershey (Diane Lane) tries to defend him, but the evidence is overwhelming which includes a DNA sample. Dredd is sentenced to life in prison and is transported with Fergie (Rob Schneider) a prisoner he sentenced not too long ago. The two work together to clear Dredd's name and return things to order. He is up against his brother (Armand Assante) and violent mechanic robot.Judge Dredd is a pretty typical blockbuster action film from the 90s. The film is not without campy and cheesy moments. Schneider tries his best to offer the comedic relief in the film. Stallone gives his usual performance. The film does not have many thrilling action sequences, but does a good job with sets to give the movie a futuristic feel. Dredd is pretty much what you would expect and that was not much. -2.10.2017

Justin A (au) wrote: As a basic zombie movie, this movie is elevated by Cronenberg's style. The problem is that as a Cronenberg movie, this is pretty bland and uninspired. It lacks the oddness of Shivers and the drama of The Brood. And while the mayhem in this movie may be at the largest scale of any Cronenberg movie, it seems to be missing the humanity and dread that his more character driven movies had.Worth watching for Cronenberg fans, but be warned that it is not at the level of his other early horror movies. It kind of gets lost in between two of his better early horror movies (Shivers and The Brood), much like The Crazies gets lost between Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead for George Romero. That I feel is a fair comparison to be made here.
