Blood for Irina

Irina is dying. A predator who stalks streets at night looking for blood, she has lived over a century; tormented by memory, living in a run-down motel by the sea, Irina has reached the end. Her perceptions skewed, her body and mind revolting against themselves, she waits for an exit. Her private hell is echoed by the motel manager, driven by an obsession to protect Irina and keep her secrets safe, and a broken prostitute whose desperate plight may be worse than Irina's. David S (fr) wrote: Only Lovers Left Alive is a film craftily made to blend misery and sorrow with life's essential beauty. Jim Jarmusch has made a culturally juicy piece of work, touching on many aspects of human history, and bringing it to the modern dilapidated end of Detroit. Swinton and Hiddleston have amazing chemistry, showcasing the immortality of love, and the powers that drive it. With captivating cinematography brought to life with guttural and poignant music, Only Lovers Left Alive leaves a lasting beautiful impression.

Harry E (us) wrote: I'm so glad to have seen this on the big screen. It is the very definition of lush - everything just looks so gorgeous, and the vivid colors and the opulence and the spectacle are simply intoxicating. This visual beauty, as well as the fascinating framing device of the circus reenactment, draws us in seductively. It starts to drag somewhat toward the end, and there is quite a bit of melodrama, but maybe that's the point: what, in the grand scheme of things, is all this - empty pursuit of social climbing, hollow pleasures - is it all just folly, cheap showmen's fodder after which kisses of this beautiful woman can be bought for a dollar? And still the spectacle in all its CinemaScope glory bowls us over. Now that there's a newly restored print, hopefully this movie can be more widely seen as it was originally intended.

I actually could remember the twist in this one, and actually it's glaringly obvious anyhow, which I don't recall it being first time around. Still a good movie. Jennifer Aniston does a good job here. And quite different to some of the fluff she's normally associated with (not a criticism - I've enjoyed a lot of it over the years. I actually do think she's a good and quite versatile actress). I did have to suspend disbelief quite a few times with some of the things that happen- seemed way too easy. Particularly what happened at the very end - as if someone would get away with that. Ditto to the hotel scene (second one). But decent thriller. Well cast and looks good.

Dann M (fr) wrote: A morose and monotonous thriller, Liars All is pointless dribble. The story follow a London police detective who most uncover how a young woman died during a private New Year's Eve party with a group of her friends. The characters aren't really that interesting and the acting doesn't help any. At times the murder mystery is intriguing, but it's poorly written. Lacking in craft and the talent, Liars All is a shallow film that doesn't tell a very engaging story.

Charles P (ru) wrote: When Harry Met Sally is a romantic comedy that nicely upholds that relationships are good, however hard they are to work for.

Devin M (nl) wrote: Great western. Good casting including John's son, Maureen, the guy who says "thank ya kindly" in the Searchers (he's an extra in both and completely insignificant) and good old Richard Boone. The story was quite interesting. The music was good.
