MF J (jp) wrote: Don't even start to ask me why but I absolutely loved this film! Strangely looking and sounding like one of these 'telenovela' flick from Latin America, this is actually a really funny and entertaining comedy with a Will Ferrell more toned down than usual. It was filled with references to these 50's romantic comedy from Latin America and done with a lot of humor and taste. Just watch it, it's a delight from start to finish.

Natalie O (de) wrote: I will watch pretty much anything with Sam Rockwell but there could have been a bit more to this sweet film

Tatsuhito K (it) wrote: It's not awful and there are things far worse than this featherweight, bland comedy, but man, what were you thinking, Mr. Hanks?!?! It's a lighthearted film and both Hanks and Roberts are damn likable, but I just didn't see the point of why this film had to be made. Stories like this have been told many times, so why make another conventional comedy? Larry Crowne is immensely forgettable and so damn flimsy. Not awful, but not good either.

Spencer P (us) wrote: Pulsing with emotion, mental intrigue, and, yes, murderous scares, Hitchcock's most (in)famous film not only continued his iconic unpredictability, but planted the seed for slashers of the future (which may have not been a good thing).

It's a good pic, and even though I've seen it far too many times since then to fully enjoy it as much as I once did, I recall liking it very much the first time and my initial impressions were very favorable, as were also the reactions from my friends who saw it at the time. Made on a relative shoe string, the fairly low budget effects are used minimallistically and to good effect, and have consequently aged well in spite of the budget constraints. Plus, the cast do their parts well with some decent play off and tension, particularly between Riddick and Johns.

Robert C (fr) wrote: This movie should have been a lot better than it was. The weakness was in direction or a lack of character development. Most of the boys were one dimensional and interchangeable. The exceptions were Kevin Phillips as Dre and Evan Ross as Reggie.. Dre was a one note character. but he was the rebel so he was distinguishable from three of the other characters Evan Ross showed nuance and skill as a teen with a speech impediment. Unfortunately, Mr. Howard's Jim is a weakness. He delivers every line as if it's life altering wisdom instead of a natural conversational tone. Bernie Mac continues his run of tough exterior characters with gooey centers ably. However the swimming sequences were exciting and filmed well. Last, but not least, Nate Parker's disappearing and reappearing tattoos drove m to distraction. They would be in one shot and gone the next.

Set to a Rugby League (peanut huggers!) it tells the rise of a miner in wakefield making his way into a pro team. Not to be put off, the sport was well shot (with the tech available) but carried the personal drama along nicely. Richard Harris in his first lead role was brilliant. He showed better acting than in the ?starry? heyday of the roles I know him from -Juggernaught (brilliant bomb disposal actioner), Wild Geese (Alan, Alan?.), Cassandra Crossing (black death on a train). Now I know he was dialling in his performances when you can see what he could do when he was really trying.Nice to see Arthur Lowe again too!8 on the BFI list to go?..

Randy S (kr) wrote: This looks like a movie made purely to provide a vacation in Italy. Technically, there are so many out-of-focus shots and so many looped lines of dialogue, it appears that nobody let making a movie get in the way of drinking. Not even interesting as the train wreck it is. Smug, coy, and relentlessly unfunny. Not fit to line the cage of the Maltese Falcon.

Jake P (us) wrote: Peter Fonda's best role since he was Captain America. The people in this movie and their emotions feel real and it's engaging.
