But they did work together and it was fun to see such veteran actors work together....Also, it was surprising to see Goldberg play a serious character. She did a good job, but still unlike her to play the one serious character in a comedy movie.

This one was one of those and just kind of fun, dark, goth, good stuff. I actually liked the main actor more than I thought I would. I liked that her character was plain and simple, a badass. She wasn't a slut, she wasn't your typical bitch female, wasn't too cocky, and not too over-the-top, stupid flashy and I actually found myself rooting for a female character for the first time in a long time. I personally just like simple movies that aren't difficult to follow and do not require over-thinking. I watch movies as more of a form of relaxation than puzzles. The writers knew what they were doing and did not over-dramatize the death of characters no one really cared that much about anyway; they just moved on with the story. That is the type of writing that keeps me interested. Smart. This was a fun, industrial film I would not mind watching again and perhaps watching more of the series.

David T (mx) wrote: A very good movie...it tells you a life of a little boy that is asked by a stranger to make a wish, that his mother and little brother makes a wish and it comes true and he grows up wondering what he did to not get a wish and finds out that his wish was given to him by the stranger, that he would find happiness in anything that he wanted and he relizes that his greates gift was having a family..
Matthew S (it) wrote: The mother and daughter who lived in seclusion of their once true showplace estate were considered crazy by the locals of the Hamptons. And the estate had virtually fallen into a state of ruin. It had become a health hazard. Their wealthy relative, Jackie O paid to the have the house professionally cleaned and restored to have running water and electricity to avoid her aunt and her cousins' eviction. Most likely she did this more to avoid scandal than as a sign of love or duty. But this put these two women as the lead topic of tabloid journalism for a couple of years. The Maysles Brothers somehow secured Big and Little Edies' permission to film them in their home which seems to be headed back into squalor. The method of Direct Cinema for documentary gave these two amazing but deeply eccentric women the opportunity to freely share their history and opinions to the camera. Grey Gardens is profound in the way it captures the on-going love/hate shared between mother and daughter. While their situation is exaggerated -- it offers a good degree of resonation. "You can't have your cake and eat it, too in life." Little Edie casually points out."Oh, yes, I did. I did, I had my cake, loved it, masticated it, chewed it and had everything I wanted." Big Edie responds with pointed glee.At turns hilarious, disturbing, haunting, sad, grotesque - it is impossible to not love these two women. And while both take deep joy in "hamming" it up for the Maysles cameras - the film captures devastating moments of self-awareness, regret and longing that grip the audience so tight it can never let go or forget the movie. While the film is certainly a documentary, it is also just as certainly confused about what is "true" and what is "fiction." We can never know who of the two is telling us the "true-er" side of their situation and history. Much of the time both women are fighting over different opinions related to their individual and shared history. It is a complex, fragile, beautiful and important Cinematic Masterpiece that refuses to distinguish "truth" "fact" or "fantasy." Brilliant.

Jim C (au) wrote: "Orphans of the Strom" is more the same D.W. Griffith fare - lofty morality preached in the form of a longer-than-necessary but nonetheless ambitious silent film epic. The film follows the tale of two sisters who are lost in the "storm" that is the French revolution - heartfelt performances by the Gish sisters, Lillian and Dorathy. The set and costume designs are impeccable, however the writing and cinematography are second-rate when compared with earlier works, especially Intolerance. Not Griffith's greatest, but one of Lillian Gish's.
Silvestre S (de) wrote: Being a decent remake it doesn't neccesary add anything new from Brian De Palma's classic but it does have a great reimagining of the original and has actors that get really into their charcter and Chlo Grace Moretz's beautiful performance causes to balance the film with enough of the information and foreshadowing to causes a lot of emotion for the climax and falling action.
Dave J (it) wrote: It opens with a bigger setting than the first two and possibly an interesting story. This quickly fades in Jackson screaming over and over again and bullet point action sequences. Then it ends in a jumble of events none of which seem that important.
