Luciano G (ru) wrote: This film is obviously trying to use the 80's style Slasher movie script, but it totally fails.....lame acting, bad script, non-existent explanations.....I 've seen a lot horror movies and I 'm a collector, but if I was you I should not watch this movie....
Dee S (fr) wrote: Love Begins! is a great DVD to own this holiday season! I(TM)ve seen all of the Love Series movie adaptations. However, this one is such a beautiful redemption story. Clark(TM)s recommitment to his faith felt very realistic. Although the story is set in late nineteenth century, the challenges he had with organized religion is relevant today, even more so. It didn(TM)t feel phony or rushed and I appreciated the way his story unfolded. At first I thought that Ellen(TM)s icy demeanor at the beginning was too hard, but as the tragedy about her dad and her fiancee leaving her, I understood. I liked how tough she was; I liked even more that she humbled herself with a sense of humor. She knew she had been giving him a hard time. I really liked how the characters in this story had realistic conversations. It(TM)s my family(TM)s favorite DVD this season. There are so many talking points for Christian parents of teens to discuss. Really loved this movie.

Walter M (jp) wrote: In "Eight Miles High," Uschi Obermaier(Natalia Avelon) is discovered at a disco in Munich by a photographer in 1968. Her mother(Petra Berndt) is absolutely apoplectic when she finds the nude photos as she is worried what the neighbors will think. Uschi takes the opportunity to hit the road with her friend Sabine(Friederike Kempter) to Berlin where Commune1 is located. Sabine soon leaves but Uschi hooks up with Rainer(Matthias Schweighofer) to practice free love which makes it kind of hard for anybody to get any sleep. Things are rocky until somebody is stupid enough to make a bomb and the police show up.(Just a quick reminder. The guy at the meeting who wants to blow everyone up is always a cop.) Uschi and Rainer emerge from the mess unscathed and are invited to hang out with the Rolling Stones. Freely adapted from Uschi Obermaier's life story, "Eight Miles High" is not a good example of a biopic since Uschi is something of a historical footnote(a great looking footnote but still...) as a model and occasional actress who is probably of more interest to people in her native Germany. Since time immemorial, young people have wanted to escape their drab surroundings to have adventures and Uschi is no different. The movie does an admirable job of capturing her world, not condescending to the anarchists, while portraying her as a driving force that while challenging societal norms could be just as disruptive towards her friends and lovers. I'm just amazed the Rolling Stones survived her being with them.

Deanne H (de) wrote: a careless viewing of this film suggests that capitalism and free trade are to blame for Jamaica's problems, but upon closer inspection, it's the arrogant top-down planning of the IMF, World Bank, and Inter American Development Bank that are the culprits, helped along by subsidies to the agriculture industry in the US and other heavily politicized, anti-market legislation in wealthy countries.
James R (it) wrote: Finally after quite some time I have finally watched Amelie. A very quirky film about a young lady named Amelie (Audrey Tautou) who is a bit lonely. She has a very big imagination, but she ultimately fears expressing herself too much. After discovering a box of hidden toys in her bathroom she goes on a mission which eventually leads to her interacting with several different people and her deciding upon herself to "fix" peoples issues. From having two restaurant regulars fall in love, to helping a young man get respect from his boss Amelie has all the tools to help and do some more. She eventually runs into a young man named Nino (Mathieu Kassovitz) who much like her is a loner and longing for a bit more. Will Amelie get past her own insecurities and realize that perhaps Nino is the match she's been waiting for? The movie is shot very well and I enjoyed the acting. It has a nice story to it all and there are a lot of great moments that show Amelie's overactive imagination. It's a very well done film and I recommend giving it a look i you've never checked it out!
Alexis S (au) wrote: That was 1 hour and 41 minutes I can never get back... Catherine O'Hara is nucking futs in this movie. Completely insane. Christina only had a minor part :( I was hoping they'd bring her back later on in the movie. Pathetic. Just utterly pathetic. The "party" was hardly anything.
Allan E (gb) wrote: : 00:48:43 into the film the desire to sleep overwhelmed me. Fortunately Greenaway's films lend them themselves to episodic viewing and lucid dreaming. One always has the strong sense of being masterfully framed. This film is no exception in that regard. It exemplifies the power of good penmanship and a stiff brush. Word. We shall see it through eventually and then say no more about it.

Paul D (es) wrote: It probably could have been good, but it never really gets going despite a decent enough look and style. The plot simply doesn't progress fast enough and your left with little explanation after 90 minutes as to what the first establishing scene was all about.
Stephen E (kr) wrote: Short and concise but unmemorable, 'Shoe-Shine' doesn't quite have the power of some of De Sica's other work yet it still manages to provide an unflinching look at life among children in post-World War II Italy all the way up to its final, haunting scene. Boy, is that one depressing ending.
Butch B (es) wrote: My wife and I really enjoyed Blinder. It isn't a blockbuster, but a really beautifully shot fim with a good story that would translate to any place and sport around the world. The message of 'the things you do when you are young can have major consequences later in life' is well delivered. It is definitely worth a watch
