Steve W (ru) wrote: Tagline: A game nobody survives. But Schwarzenegger has yet to play. The Running Man is one hell of an entertaining movie. Made in a very dated style with biting satire, its campy and action-packed, and it works. The satire is right on with our love of reality television, even echoing the Price is Right. It definitely differs from the source material by Stephen King (as Richard Bachmann), but it manages to make the best with what it has.Written by Commando screenwriter Steven E. DeSouza, The Running Man is guilty pleasure movie that blends science fiction, corny one-liners, and a whole lot of bravado. I consider The Running Man an action movie classic.

Niar E (ag) wrote: I don't know why they named it "Twice Born" in English.. the Italian name means "Came to the world" and that is far touching.Yes, the movie is so nice, dense and cluttered though. I'm fond of this kind of melodrama, and Castelitto made it well here using the epic evocative mixture between the passion of motherhood and women torture in wars. The first 30 min is not that strong, and seems out of the rhythm, because it looks so normal, and then we involve in a harsh story of love in our way to reach the very deep end that can make us burst.Nice job from the actors.. I think Penelope Cruz is used to have this kind of romantic role with Almodovar, love Emile Hirsch too, as the man who can make us laugh at the very begining and cry at last. But I don't feel the demanded romantic chemistry between this couple, that maybe I find Cruz a bit dignified more than the role needs, and I think that Hirsch was not the best choice to paly the role of her beloved man.Nice power in colors, love the shaking throughout shooting to feel the hand of the cameramen, and above that a Splendid OST by Eduardo Cruz (I guess Penelope's brother).Definitely an expressive movie worths watching.

Cynthia S (es) wrote: A Holocaust story about memory, intimacy, revelation, and redemption. My only complaint here was the very slow pace. It really drags its feet. I am sure the pacing worked better in written form, and the movie did inspire me to seek out more about this author. The novel, I am told, is written in prose form, and is as beautifully written as the story it tells. The movie comes across in the same exact way, and takes some patience to appreciate it, I guess.

Kevin R (ca) wrote: The way of the samurai is found in death. An African American hitman in the ghetto tries to live a life of truth and honesty and follow the path of the samurai. He finds a lot of unjustice individuals in his profession but he tries to keep to a higher standard. When he becomes a target of the mafia, he tries to pass his knowledge down to the youth and move forward with facing his nemeses."You shot me in the same place as last time."Jim Jarmusch, director of Dead Man, Broken Flowers, Only Lovers Left Alive, Coffee and Cigarettes, Money Train, Night on Earth, The Limits of Control, and Stranger than Paradise, delivers Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. The storyline for this picture is interesting and a bit unique but kind of reminded me of a blaxpliotation of Leon: The Professional. The acting was okay, better than average, and the cast includes Forest Whitaker, Rza, Victor Argo, Damon Whitaker, John Tormey, and Richard Portnow."Always see everything, my brother."Ghost Dog is a movie I have always wanted to see and found it on Netflix. I understand the direction they went with this film, and it is unique in its own way, but it is a fairly average movie with some potential that never comes to fruition. I will score this above average based on the premise but I wouldn't go too out of my way to see it."The end is important in all things."Grade: C+

John M (nl) wrote: A mess of a film, which is meant, I think, to be a homage to the exploitation films of the 70s, but comes off looking like a lot of ideas just thrown together with no real meat to them. Also, I would have expected a film of this nature to have some humour in it, but not one iota did I find.
