Sue G (gb) wrote: this ranks with the Princess Bride, the Goonies, and Stardust as the best kid movies.

Alexis R (jp) wrote: Penny Dreadful Movie Review! This movie is so full of potential, and has a premise so interesting, that it's pretty sad to see how it goes downhill. The premise is about a young woman who suffers from motorphobia (fear of cars) and is entrapped by a homicidal hitchhiker on such. Hi-jinks ensue. The visuals are nice, the acting is also well done. The story itself is rather interesting and sometimes it's strange. Some secondary characters appear around the movie solely to further the plot; nothing further. The ending of the movie is what drives the rating down. It just seems so unnecessary and poorly executed that it makes me cringe at the fact that I liked this movie for the rest.So in the end, this is a 4 out of 10 (2 stars). It's slightly below average

Harrison W (es) wrote: Holy shit. How have I never seen this before? This was perfect. Not sure if it makes my top Coen Brothers films. I think there's probably a lot more depth here than I'll ever understand.

Eric J (mx) wrote: We can see by the end of the 30's the Gold Diggers had mined out all the nuggets and get left with a dry hole.. Even Joan Blondell and the evergreen Dick Powell can't save this lowball from fizzling. You'll be U.N.I.T.E.D. (U Need Insurance To Escape Death) in your opinion of needing to take out some after suffering through this yarn about enterprising young gentlemen and ladies financing a broadway show using Life insurance. There is the great Busby Berkeley spectacle of course but it's at the very end and isn't as clever as in the previous two films.

Jason B (ag) wrote: A movie so epic in scale that it took seven directors to bring it to life.

Robert F (br) wrote: This new evocation of the classic Film Noir genre has everything. It's a suspense film,a thriller,an action film and a love sonnet to the city of New York. The splendid cast is empowered by a heartfelt performance by Adrien Brody and sterling work by Yvonne Strahowski, Campbell Scott and Jennifer Beals. Sharp direction by Brian DeCubellis from his screenplay based on the gripping novel by Colin Harrison. This is the sort of intelligent, thoughtful film that doesn't rely on explosions and falling bridges to capture an audience. Grab this one.
