It, however, succeeds in the creation of a simple and dramatic atmosphere through the music and breathtaking visuals. This story is all about the longing for genuine happiness, and it is shown in the most beautiful way. My only concern with this movie, as with all of Shinkai's work to date, is the overuse of voiceovers. It sometimes becomes excessive, specially when the imagery shows quite well what is going on. The movie, however, is spectacular and heartbreaking. A masterpiece of animated movies.

Danny T (ca) wrote: The film has astounding performances, but too often seems to be checking off boxes denoting every textbook female-adolescent transgression.

Perry C (de) wrote: Absolutely horrible. I gave this film a shot because I enjoyed Dacascos in The Crow: Stairway To Heaven, Brotherhood of the Wolf and Cradle 2 The Grave. But this movie is just horrible. After thirty minutes, I was so bored and irritated that I turned it off.
kelly (kr) wrote: The director uses some cheap tactics to evoke the sympathy he wants: classical music, dark settings, leaving the camera run during awkward silences, zooming in on the subjects' faces when he notices his subject is disturbed, popping the AIDS question on every subject. And it doesn't work on me; I don't feel bad for these kids. All I can think is - wow Prague has got some hot dumb cheap young ass!The subjects run the gamut from a 15 year old runaway with a gambling addiction to a 19 year old who has made prostitution a successful, comfortable, and safe career for himself. Too bad that when the director gets all these guys together for a party that he doesn't arrange for some intracommunity counseling between the smarter tricks and the reckless ones. There's a couple explicit photos that attempt to be censored, but you can see everything. And compared to other documentaries on prostitution, the "bad stories" are not that bad. The worst is a masochist who whipped and beat a boy and then refused to pay. Most of the other tricks just moan about not liking anal, but that's like a fireman bitching about not wanting to go in burning buildings. One weather-worn trick talks about an era in which he was working at a cheap brothel and having nine clients a day slamming his ass - now THAT'S a legitimate complaint.Like I said I don't feel bad for these guys; they all admit to doing it for the money and none who dislike the job discuss specifically why they cannot work or live elsewhere. It is alluded to when one of the subjects says that most of the guys spend the money they make at clubs on the same night they make it, and the 15 year old asks the film-maker on camera for a loan so he can gamble.

Holly C (ru) wrote: Ok, so I know I like weird movies and this is one of them. I actually had low expectations for this one. However, it turned out to be a pretty cool little movie. A circus comes to town to avenge the death of the head vampire. I like it that the circus animals turned into vampires. That part was pretty cool. I'm glad I checked it out.

Jason J (es) wrote: While this early Clint Eastwood cop drama has been overshadowed by the later Dirty Harry movies, it is worth watching as it literally shows his transition from a cowboy to a cop. This movie is quite fun, having much more humour than the Dirty Harry movies. He is constantly having to correct people who assume he is from Texas just because he wears a cowboy hat and boots. While there is a bit of violence (such as a fantastic brawl in a pool club) it isn't too gory, some people might find the way he interrogates Ringerman's girlfriend by throwing her around the room then sleeping with her a bit chauvinistic for this day and age... although I suspect it was for many people back then, certainly the police psychologist he gets involved with doesn't approve of his more physical approach to law enforcement! Although this is obviously a Clint Eastwood movie, the rest of the cast aren't bad either, in particular Lee J. Cobb as a New York police lieutenant. We also get to see some parts of New York not used that much in movies. I'd definitely recommend this to anybody who is a fan of Clint Eastwood or of '60s/'70s cop movies.
