Harry W (kr) wrote: A cult film if I ever saw one. Natural Born Killers is the Rocky Horror Picture Show of crime films and its surprising how many bad reviews it has. The artsy nonsense of the film often drowns the actual plot which is frustrating for a mainstream audience and I didn't expect the film to be so art-house in its approach to two road trip serial killers. It also wasn't as bloody as I'd heard it was. The acting from Juliette Lewis, Robert Downey Jr. and Woody Harrelson is extremely committed and believable. The film is let down by its second half which is no where near as captivating or interesting as the first but I think that this is purposely done to (spoiler alert) show the contrast between the hallucinatory romance of the road and the gloomy insides of a high security prison. The music is really amazing as well and the script is gorgeously written.
Sean N (nl) wrote: Linda Blair's hot deaf sister played by Linnea Quigley (who looks 12 years old when she's nude for some reason in this movie) gets raped because they prank some leather wearing pea brains by dumping trash all over their car in the beginning of the movie. That sets off a chain reaction of violent revenge. This is pure sleaze with characters who don't think twice about their actions, obligated moments of sympathy by the guy who was 'forced to do it' and oh yeah Linnea Quigley's 12 year old boobs.

If you can stand the length (2 hours 45 mins), and if you like westerns, give it a go. For 50 years ago, and even for today, this movie has some jaw-dropping effects and shots. Plus, the cast is HUGE, tons of big names, with solid acting across the board (here's just a few: James Stewart, John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Gregory Peck, Walter Brennan). It should also be known that the movie had 3 directors (including the legendary John Ford), each one devoted to certain scenes and settings. But alas, the movie isn't perfect. My gripes were that it seemed to focus more on the romantic storylines than on the "winning the West" plot, which was supposed to be the whole point of the movie, right? And my other complaint wasn't really a big deal, but needs to be addressed. This was one of only 10 movies shot with 3-strip Cinerama. Basically, they shot it with 3 cameras, simultaneously, so you had to watch it on 3 screens all at once (neat idea, but costly and didn't catch on). The home media releases varied, including the 2 vertical lines where the screens met, and also certain releases, like blu-ray, digitally removed the lines. However, they were still visible in some scenes! Or, worse yet, you had an image that molded into itself, like the 3 screens were connected and...umm, curvy. So yea, it bugged me haha. But, I must say, for the most part, they did a fairly good job restoring it. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble. Good movie.

Jeffrey H (au) wrote: Overproduced, overbudget, bloated and a massive mess, Waterworld is all of these things. However, it's also a production designer's wet dream. The sets are incredible and showcase just how big Hollywood can be. The scale of Waterworld is impressive to even the most jaded critic. Is it a good movie as a whole? No, absolutely not. The characters are uninteresting, there's a whirlpool of plot holes, and the film suffers from being too ambitious. The film succeeds in it's scale at the same time, though. It almost acts like a sizzle reel for prop and set design students and while that doesn't make it a coherent or tight film, it makes it dazzling eye candy and sets the bar for what these kinds of event/concept films can do.
