Ben D (nl) wrote: Very much an issue based drama - a gay teacher in a small town is accused of "inappropriate behaviour" with one of his students - Steven Williford's drama has much in it that elevates it above movie of the week status. There are some fine performances amongst the supporting cast - Illeanna Douglas, Julia Ormond, Cheyenne Jackson - and the whole thing is shot with sincerity. The lead, Jason Butler Harner, was a complete unknown to me (a glance through his credits on Rotten Tomatoes tells me I've seen just 2 films he's been in), and he imbued Michael with a calm dignity. What lets this otherwise admirable movie down is a very ham-fisted, implausible ending. Michael, facing the end of everything he loves and knows, does something entirely stupid and out of character, leading to a resolution that is even more out of character than what has come before. In fact, the ending is so bodged, it undoes any of the credit the film has earned. It negates all the arguments the film has been making - there should have been no villains here, and the resolution should have come out of the moral questions the film was asking, not some leftfield abuse story line. Especially an abuse storyline that seemed ripped from an episode of Law and Order Special Victims Unit. A shame that they saw fit to end the film this way, as until then it has been doing well.

Greg L (de) wrote: the only reason I understood what was happening is I am a great fan of the first 2 movies heavily influenced by the master Clive Barker. I was at least entertained by 3,4, and 7 but nothing new happened in this one. Cenobytes should not be formulaic.

Gregory M (au) wrote: Oh God! I can't deny it, I'm a sucker for fairytale romances and this movie is exactly like that. It is a Cinderella retelling, set in the modern world. It is exactly that! I could overlook all the things that were wrong in this (believe me I know that riches ain't everything, i really can overlook that, I swear) because the actors did such a great job to bring their characters to life. Robert's was a wonder, she stole every frame she was in. She really gave a personality to her character. Gere was the perfect match for her and he made a great partner. Both were wonderful to look at. This was just so fun, I had such a great time! It was really good!

Matt H (kr) wrote: If I had seen this movie as a child I would have absolutely loved it; had the same vibe to me as flubber. This was back when Disney made family friendly movies starring adults instead of bratty kids. The cats were awesome, and clearly had no idea they were being filmed. I imagine there are hundreds of hours of cat footage that ended up on the editing room floor due to uncooperative kitties. The movie could have been 10 minutes shorter but the climax with the cat flying the plane lasted way too long.
