(ag) wrote: I really enjoyed this movie, it surpassed my expectations, although I wasexpecting a funny comedy that it turned out not to be, but i found adeeper meaning in it that i really liked and made me think... the endit's unrealistic but following the line of thought in the movie itmakes sense...
(br) wrote: this movie was just bad bad bad. nothing about it was good at all. i thought it would bee scary but it was just really horrible acting. it's a good thing i only spent $1 at McDonalds to rent it. I don't even think it deserves 1/2 of a star.
(es) wrote: I don't think I'd call it a good documentary, but it's like a Reader's Digest of Italian classics I haven't seen, and given my recent attention span, that's a close second to the "Microserfs" strategy of only watching subtitled movies so you can watch them at 2x or 3x speed [this actually worked for us for one remarkably slow Japanese film a while ago, making the dance sequences among the best I've ever enjoyed]. Only after about 2 hours did it occur to us to find out that it will be 4 hours long, so we're saving installment 2 until one day when we're awake again.

(nl) wrote: I don't remember a lot of details, but I remember lots of funny situations, such as playing the cello in the marching band. After writing for Sid Caesar and developing an act as a stand-up comedian, Allen directed his first feature of original material (co-written by fellow comedian Mickey Rose). This was before Rob Reiner and Christopher Guest popularized the mockumentary. Allen as Virgil Starkwell is quite the inept robber.

(mx) wrote: While this Scorsese production doesn't go too deep, it tells a story of how different groups operate within the system; how, at least for these Asian gang members, there was no honor among competing gangs, and not even within the same gang. Eventually, the meteoric rise of two brothers into an increasingly powerful gang evaporates almost as quickly as it had first sprung up. Nothing is left but an empty shell as the gang implodes on itself. It operated corruptly, dangerously, and with total disregard, eventually, for even itself). I do give high marks to the interplay that develops between CIA agent Bloom (Ray Liotta) and the ever-smirking Snakehead Mama (played by Eugenia Yuan) in the supermarket scene. Overall, this is an OK film to watch in your spare time, but definitely not a must-see.
