And Cate Blanchett is without a doubt my favorite actress as she is just so awesome at everything she does. She is the Meryl Streep of this generation and that is saying a lot!

P D (ru) wrote: Errol Morris has taken the story of a bespectacled man with the personality of an empty walnut shell and made it into in documentary that is unique and captivating. For that, he deserves praise. However, the presentation is overly manipulative to the point where it is almost dishonest, by bringing the audience to appreciate the coffee-slurping simpleton who seems to have dedicated his life to humane execution (if that's possible) and keeping the hands and minds of death row guards clean and sane. Fred's underwhelming charisma spreads its wings and gains altitude with his detailed description of the similarities between the results of using an electric chair and roasting a chicken. Just when you get comfortable with the elfin purveyor of death machines, the documentary takes a sharp turn and shows you that Fred is a complete moron whose is ready to sell his pseudo-science soul to any special interest group willing to stroke his ego. As a few other reviewers mentioned, Errol Morris really cops out in not confronting Fred with the vast shortfalls in methodology. What kind of attention ho would star in a documentary about himself as a holocaust denier? If they had included interviews with Fred's grade-school classmates, he surely would have been the one who ate glue. The lack of confrontation with Fred holds this back from its full potential. Interesting documentary but would never make it on 60 Minutes, but Juan Valdez gives it two donkey ears and a tail.
