Darwin's Dilemma

Darwin's Dilemma examines what many consider to be the most powerful refutation of Darwinian evolution-the Cambrian fossil record. Charles Darwin realized that the fossil evidence did not support his theory of gradual, step-by-step evolutionary development. He hoped that future generations of scientists would make the discoveries necessary to validate his ideas. Today, after more than 150 years of exploration fossil evidence of slow, incremental biological change has yet to be excavated. Instead, we find a picture of the rapid appearance of fully developed, complex organisms during the outset of the Cambrian geological era. Organisms that embody almost all of the major animal body plans that exist today. This remarkable explosion of life is best explained by the existence of a transcendent intelligence.

Helen J (de) wrote: This is a movie about love and commitment not just involving another person but also with one's own creative vision and morale compass. Although it is a period film, it felt thoroughly modern and relevant in theme and content. There are a number of stories within the story and lots of food for thought if you want it or just sit back and enjoy the film.

Karen (mx) wrote: I remember this movie!! I seen it when I was real young..in the 80's. I remember it was pretty good. I thought "Frankie" was played by Demi Moore??

Peter F (us) wrote: The Coens' first film is perhaps their least polished venture, but it still stands as a terrific debut for cinema's most creative filmmaking duo.

Rod A (ca) wrote: The scenes with the soldiers trying to pick up dates in the beginning and the scenes where the girl is confronted by the pianist's mother are so well done because they generate discomfort and surprise. I really felt what these people were going through. These episodes were like well-written short stories. It was such a pleasure to watch.
