Ross H (ru) wrote: Now this is more like it! A fantasy for young adults, kind of like the Harry Potter type. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie for the creatures and the makeup effects and the beautiful New Zealand scenery (to be precise, Auckland) The kids don't do a bad job either with nobody really blowing me away with their performance but getting the job done. Also having Sam Neill along doesn't hurt either. Teens Rachel and Theo (Sophie McBride and Tom Cameron) have to move it with their aunt and uncle (who have a son named Ricky) after their mom dies suddenly. It is there where they see an old house that's across the lake and hear stories about strange goings on there. We eventually see who is living there...some old man who keeps looking at them from afar. What they don't know are the old man along with some others of his "family" (The Wilburforce family) are really shape-shifting creatures from another planet. They then meet Mr. Jones (Neill) a man who can heal with fire that comes out of his hands! Some important revelations are brought out for the reason the Wilburforces are so interested in the twins and Mr. Jones' involvement in all of this. A fine movie that I recommend to anybody who wants to see something like Potter or Percy Jackson but have already seen everything that's out. I hope this genre (young adult?) still remains strong because I believe these films have a genuine quality to them. They're just a little bit dark but with amazing effects and good storylines with good credible young actors, sometimes people you've never seen before in a movie. A fun time all the way around, this was a very nice surprise.

Dann M (br) wrote: The goofball comedy Trapped in Paradise is a fun and entertaining film that is full of holiday spirit. When Bill Firpo's brothers get paroled from prison they con him into pulling a daring Christmas Eve bank heist, but things go wrong as they seem unable to find their way out of the city. Nicolas Cage, Jon Lovitz, Dana Carvey, and Madchen Amick form a great cast that are well suited for this style of comedy. Additionally, the lighthearted humor is well played and works with the cheesy, over-the-top comedic tone that the film is going for. Trapped in Paradise gets a little too wacky now and then, but on the whole it's an enjoyable romp that delivers plenty of laughs.

Joshua D (br) wrote: I've love Vietnam war films. I love the effort of every director trying to show how brutal and unfair this fight really was. Some are wonderful such as Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Full Metal Jacket. And some are not so good. Hamburger Hill tried. But without the mass of a real story-line, almost no character development, and no major actors, Hamburger Hill flattens out as a tasteless burger. And like that play on words this film just isn't good.

Richard W (gb) wrote: Most people don't watch this type of movie for the story or the acting, instead they watch it for the dancing. However, you will find that there isn't anything out of the ordinary. The only good part of the dancing was the gogo brothers in the finals, other than that even the power moves were mediocre and the camera work was terrible.
