A truce is arranged, but Omar must start selling drugs to pay the fine he now owes. Meanwhile, a number of other locals struggle to negotiate the political and social tinderbox of Jaffa's Ajami neighborhood Ajami is a complex beast, dealing with the ills and prejudices of the middle east, which i doubt too many americans are well versed in (i know i'm not), and therefore may be somewhat lost for a substantial amount of its runtime (i was). The manner in which it's edited and directed doesn't make it any easier for the newly initiated, as the narrative is cut and shuffled around in non-linear fashion while its directed with loads of documentarian flair. It undoubtedly works extremely well, as it's an incredibly atmospheric piece of work with excellent replay value, but one decidedly unconcerned with the requirements of many American moviegoers. There are no stars in this picture, many of the people onscreen literally live in the area depicted in the feature. You may not have been able to quite put your finger on it if you hadn't known this fact going into your viewing, but you would definitely have gotten a unique impression from the actors' performances in the picture. It's a impression that's mysterious, nuanced and powerful, all from first time actors. simply incredible. Though the picture has a steep "learning curve", Ajami is well worth it.

Andrew G (br) wrote: It's nothing special and does what I dislike about a lot of Thrillers: constant swearing and a too strong emphasis on sex. There are small occaions in the film where I thought it was ok, but most of it, at least to me, was poorly made standard crime/thriller ordeal. Every other line was either fuck or shit in most of the film. The story seemed to rush straight by, and although it didn't confuse me personally, it was for the most part attempting to do so. The conclusion and the explanations the film gave were fairly unsatisfying and were incredibly displeasing. I thought the acting was ok from the three leads, but when they were trying to be intense they were unconvincing.

Supposedly set in the US but obviously filmed in Italy with a mostly Italian cast, this is entirely worthless except for the fact that Williamson's acting and the script's dialogue are so shamelessly cliched that they become laugh out loud funny at times.

Charles James I (es) wrote: This film churns away the rusty iron wheel of deception and lies. As it squeaks, each dilapidated gear clangs and grinds. The rusty fragments of iron sprinkle down on your unsuspecting face. This is noir.Highly entertaining. Highly suspenseful. Highly under-appreciated. Join the privileged few, and give this little ruby noir a peep.
