Carlos M (kr) wrote: A ridiculous and irritating film full of clichs, about an annoyingly optimistic couple out of a fairy tale facing a hard situation. Not only the narration is expository and unnecessary but everything else is also trivial and unsubtle, made by an inexpert director who never seems sure of what she wants to say.
Jitka Z (gb) wrote: I have no idea what is up with Rotten Tomatoes critics. If this were a story about an over-the-hill middle-aged man it would no doubt garner rave reviews. Brenda Blethyn was incredible, thoroughly convincing and cringe-worthy as the controlling and attention seeking mother. Anyone who has ever had to deal with a mother-in-law or a narcissist will be able to relate. Loved it!
Frances H (it) wrote: One either likes British humor and "gets it" or one doesn't. I always loved it and find it hilarious. This little gem is a funny, cute, and sometimes sweet movie that was very entertaining and enjoyable. I always loved Martin Freeman and this film makes me love him more. Definitely recommended.
Sandra L (de) wrote: The precursor of the Napoleon Dynamite film, it's a nice for student film about Seth and his friends, Gael and Pedro at school, getting a lotto ticket and a wig.
Eric R (de) wrote: Gus Van Sant's debut film is a gorgeous black and white film which follows Walt, the manager of a liquor store in Portland, Oregon. He falls in love with a young mexican immigrant, Johnny, who really don't share the same feelings, but goes along with it, essentially for the money. Most of the film follows Walt as he looks for romantic connection. The film gives a strong unique viewpoint into the life of a homosexual man who is really just looking for personal connection. The film features sporadic voiceover as well, from Walt, who gives the audience additional insight into his views on the various relationships he has. As stated, the film is shot in beautiful black and white and features some nice compositions. Being his first film, its a helluva a debut, but Van Sant would definitely go on to make stronger films.

Lee C (nl) wrote: Easily one of my favorite movies that fall into the category of a "musical" and there aren't many. I think this movie deserves better ratings than what critics have given it. While it is long it doesn't feel stressed, more of a fun, relaxing jaunt with some comedic action and hilarious humor. I love seeing Lee Marvin flesh out his character so well and getting a look at the lighter side of Clint is interesting. The songs serve to complement and drive the picture quite nicely to where I really don't understand the vitriol from the past. It's worth a look at least...

Darryl C (ag) wrote: here is one of the most magnificent character studies made. kruger and gozzi are radiant! but particularly gozzi. she was but a child when she made this film. her naturalness and realness in some highly complicated scenes deserves notice in the light of some recent so-called phenomenons.
Leo M (es) wrote: Great casting! Everyone did an amazing job and this was written very well. This movie is to be appreciated for its great story telling. Political thrillers are tough sells usually, however, nothing but the truth very believable as there is much truth in it.

Skylar E (jp) wrote: One of my least favorite Kubrick films, but not that bad as a movie. The film drags slightly towards the end, most of the great moments come from the first half of the film, and some of the scenes felt out of place and unimportant to the rest of the picture.
