Michael W (jp) wrote: Silly Japanese parody of old Japanese superhero TV shows. Deliberately formulaic but that's just part of the fun and the joke. English track on DVD is AWFUL, watch with subtitles! You should probably like Japanese sense of humor and films to watch this one.

Elgan D (de) wrote: By 2001 Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman were household names, Richard Linklater was a successful indie director and they got together for this experiment. It's extremely low budget stuff, the cinematography is college student quality with some of the shots looking like the director really was just playing with a camera for the first time. The story is fairly interesting with dialogue that carries realism although it does this to the point of mundanity at times. Ethan Hawke does provide a good performance although all 3 characters are quite dislikable.

Alex A (ru) wrote: In all honesty, Clockstopper's has a good enough plot for a more mature Sci-Fi thriller, but it's wasted here with annoying characters, unintentionally hilarious moments and corny acting. It was almost impossible to not face-palm myself every five minutes watching this one. I love some Nickelodeon cartoons, but most of the time, aside from my guilty favorites Good Burger and Harriet the Spy, their movies suck. Why Michael Biehn, did you go from The Terminator and Aliens, to this? For kids it may be a good time, but most older people, if not all, will almost positively hate it.

Michael W (jp) wrote: High prices and lack of adequate parking are not the only hazards in this mall. A leap forward in mall security is tainted when security robots malfunction, trapping overnight partyers in the mall. A few good cameos, especially Bartel & Woronov, and an understated but definite sense of humour.

JeanFrancois V (kr) wrote: This is probably the most medieval film ever produced. Director Eric Rohmer translated the original work by Chretien de Troyes, a XIIth century French poet, and had the actors deliver the lines in a rather antiquated French. The narration is sung by minstrels accompanied by medieval instruments, or told by background characters, and sometimes even by the main characters themselves (who, for instance, will say: "He tells him the reason" instead of actually telling the reason.)The whole film is shot on a very small set, almost a theater stage, with a few stylised trees, painted horizons, a few disproportionately small castles (as in medieval illuminations) and a few simple interiors. The story itself is poorly structured by modern standards, like the original itself, probably, being interrupted by a side-story about another knight, itself left unresolved, and a short passion play in which Luchini himself is crucified.I first saw this film about thirty years ago on French television and really enjoyed it. It was a real pleasure to see it again after all these years, all the more so as, having become a traditional Catholic in the meantime, I knew what the bleeding spear and the Grail were about, and I could even understand most of the unsubtitled latin of the passion play. The film's greatest achievement is to treat the material with the utmost respect, resisting any temptation to sneer at its naivete, values (especially piety) or esthetics.Having also greatly enjoyed Rohmer's "The Lady and the Duke", a visually innovative recreation of the French Revolution, I am curious to discover whether he has made other interesting films of the same caliber.
