Stone J (kr) wrote: in the film's defence!... i can't believe all the negativity surrounding this film. i absolutely loved it, it was so exciting and hilarious, a good mix of comedy and tragedy, the music was a great mix of traditional hartley soundtrack and suspenseful, the clever plot was obviously purposefully farcical the way it twisted back and forth, and back; yet so many reviewers said, 'my this isn't a proper spy film.' !!! but its hard recommending it when so many are against it. i'm a hartley fan, loved Henry Fool, but am not biased - THE GIRL FROM MONDAY i didnt like. i guess its one for the hartley fans, i loved the camera angles, the quirkiness and how the characters from henry fool are gradually reintroduced. many might dislike that its a 'slapstick-thriller' of a sequel to henry fool - a film which had more trueness and gritty realism; but i just sat back and enjoyed it and it was one of those great film experiences for me - so well written and exectuted

Carl N (ag) wrote: This film plays out a lot like an episode of masters of horror. Although this movie has the zombie/cannibalistic angle, this is more of a surreal love story than a horror film. Melissa Bacelar, stars as Pandora a zombie ghoul-like prostitute who falls for sad and lonely Jeffrey. Pandora is not satisfied unless she has human flesh to eat, and Jeffrey becomes her accomplice in luring in unsuspecting snacks. Add to this a vicious hit-man gunning for Pandora and you get very enjoyable film.

Stuart K (jp) wrote: Written and directed by Kimberly Peirce, (Stop-Loss (2008) and Carrie (2013)), this tragic romantic drama is based on the true story that occurred in the early 1990's in Nebraska, and Peirce had heard about what had happened, and was inspired to write a screenplay, it makes for a powerful but dark love story, with a twist though, but it has some good performances, and it has a very human quality. Brandon Teena (Hilary Swank) is a female to male transgender man, born Teena Ray Brandon, who is wanting to lead a normal life, but he is finding that hard, and moves to another part of Nebraska to start again. It's here where he meets ex-convicts John Lotter (Peter Sarsgaard) and Tom Nissen (Brendan Sexton III), and their friends Candace (Alicia Goranson) and Lana Tisdel (Chlo Sevigny). Brandon falls in love with Lana, and they begin a relationship, Lana almost finds out about Brandon's secret, but he covers it up by claiming that he was born a hermaphrodite, and will have it corrected soon. But, John and Tom soon find out the real truth about Brandon. Made for only $2 million, it stuck a chord with moviegoers, and it rightfully won Swank an Oscar for her role as Brandon. It's not a film for everyone, but writer/director Peirce was very lucky to have the right cast for this film, and they're the glue holding this tale together.
