I can use that phrase on THE VILLAGE but for OLDBOY, it is more than that. You can tell your friends about the many twists but they need to watch it to know what you are talking about. It is KILL BILL with many twists and nasty surprises. It only not strives to keep you at the edge of the seat with a very very intriguing story and along the way it also attempts to make your stomach sick with violent scenes and perverted revelations. There are many similarities to KILL BILL but Quentin Tarantino chooses this as his favourite at the Cannes. He has many reasons to realise that there are also many differences between the two. The revenge tale and the violence are the only common things. Other than that, the stylish directing style is different and the stories want to achieve different objectives. This one wants to take us by surprises till the very end.The plot is rather impossible and even more so for the ending. Still I like this movie. It pushes the envelope in many ways, including the cameraworks. The opening scene sets the story going already. The fade-ins used in the narration are unique. The long shot of the main character fighting off a gang with a hammer is so real I wonder how they get it made without really hurting anyone. Not to mention the countless rehearsals to get it right.Ok. Just a very small spoiler (which can hardly qualified as one really), the title itself should be changed to keep the whole mystery fully intact.Expected Rating: BRating: B

(fr) wrote: This was quite an awful film to be honest! It could have been an amusing film but unfortunately, the characters are totally inept at delivering comedy lines not to mention the writers didn't really create any funny situations! I just really didn't enjoy the film in any way but the monster actually looked quite decent, in an over the top kind of humorous way!
(mx) wrote: Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985) ????Gloriously filmed third entry finds Max trapped into helping a band of "lost" kids to defeat sinister overlord of the world's most advanced city. Majorly underrated, perhaps the best of the MAD MAX films, this one minimizes action for more humanity and originality. Although Thunderdome sequence and final chase are unforgettable highlights.

(de) wrote: This post apocalyptic, sci-fi retelling of "Casablanca" (with Pamela Anderson in the Humphrey Bogart role) definitely could have been a fun campy popcorn flick, but Anderson is so wooden that she drains any fun out of her role. Anderson seems only seems capable of posing and looking the part of a grossly disproportioned comic book heroine. She does certainly look the part, but that doesn't make up for the films many other faults. I would note that she's not the only one to blame for what went wrong with this film. Garish costumes, set design and photography, along with direction that's more focused on weak MTV stylistics than actually developing scenes, character or story. However, in the plus column, there's a good supporting cast of familiar character actors, including Udo Kier, Tiny Lister, Steve Railsback, Xander Berkeley (in the Claude Raines role) and Clint Howard (in the Peter Lorre role). Berkeley, Kier and Temuera Morrison (in the Paul Henrid role) do strike the right tone for the film, but unfortunately no one else seems to get it. But the biggest plus for the film, which really showed that the film had potential, is the story premiss of a post apocalyptic Casablanca with a female Rick Blain. The script is actually decent and the film definitely had potential, but Anderson and a ham handed production make it just a mess and into a nearly unwatchable film.
