Jason A (de) wrote: Only Ang Lee could have made this film. Through flashbacks, and nonlinear storytelling, Lee distracts his audience enough to hide the fact that he's shinning a mirror on the absurdity of how American's glamorize war -- a topic many know little to nothing about.

Dave B (ru) wrote: Athough at the centre of this movie is a gay commitment ceremony this is a off beat comedy that shows that everyone has relationship issues and even when you screw up big time the ones you love hold on to you.
Henry M (au) wrote: This film is so smart. The dialogue used between characters is simply brilliant and everything in the movie seems to be purposeful and precise. The perfect beginning to Tarantino's career and he established his masterful storytelling right off the bat.
Ted C (ca) wrote: It has a bizarre 70s jerkiness to it, and it also suffers from the fact that its B story really should be its A story. The scenes involving Elliott Gould are, for the most part, infinitely more entertaining than the ones involving James Brolin. The climactic air chase is actually pretty spectacular, but there's a pathetic excuse for denouement following it. Other than said air chase, the only two reasons to see the film beyond the basic interesting premise are the chance to see OJ Simpson in an astronaut suit and the scene where James Brolin eats a rattlesnake.

Kevin M W (it) wrote: Ridley Scott takes on the subject of war. Everybody does their best as a technologically advanced American crew of expert soldiers work to extricate key figures in a dirtwater African town torn apart in a civil war --- until it all goes wrong, big-time. Hold onto your seats, it's going to be a bumpy ride, hoorah. Blistering combat, don't say I didn't warn you. For giggles try to spot the foreigners playing Yanks, I dare you. Having a weekend allnighter? Do a doubleheader with Zulu, with Michael Caine, another whiteys against the rampaging darkies show.
