Jillian L (us) wrote: This is a weird little movie. The first 20-30 minutes are really promising. Sean Penn immediately grabs you with this character, retired rocker Cheyenne. And then you meet Frances McDormand who plays his wife, and you watch their relationship and it's interesting. But once he gets to America, the whole thing just kind of meanders from place to place, like the main character. There are some wonderful moments from Sean Penn. But they're mostly monologues that he delivers to some random side character. I was just really hoping this was going to go somewhere. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful showcase for Penn, but the movie as a whole fell short for me.
Long L (ru) wrote: Oddly enough, this movie was better than expected. Not as sexist as you would think. The lawyer characters were really good at being a**holes. And the cougars made believable cougars. The ending was good too. Not your typical "happy" ending, but I liked it because it was different.

The director Shane Meadows appears to relish depicting the working class, but here his characters largely come across like one dimensional Viz cartoon strips, only not as comically pleasing, yet at the same time just as stereotypical. The cast is made up of a strong British cast from all corners of the country, but the slightly soap opera style writing is never quite good enough meaning no one ever gets the chance to shine. There are some amusing parts toward the first half, but the maudlin and trite closing sequence is enough to make me never want to watch this ever again.

Talon D (de) wrote: This was a very enjoyable movie with a very clever story and great humour/characters. Will Ferrell was especially awesome in it. I loved the twists near the end and how it didn't go how you'd expect at all. I also really enjoyed the Roxanne character. The character itself was different than most other girls in animated movies and you couldn't quite tell how she'd act or react. The animation was also quite good. The Megamind character is very unique and has a ton of good characterization in the movie. And I like how he was forced to be a hero in the end and he realized it was actually a great thing. Highly recommend.
