Hannah D (nl) wrote: The non-linear structure takes some getting used to, but this is a really well-made drama with interesting characters and dialogue. Vanessa Redgrave did a sterling job as the school teacher Jean trying to come to terms with her past. I also really liked Joely Richardson playing young Jean in the 1950s.

Bob V (mx) wrote: John Garfield plays a dedicated talented violinist who doesn' succeed in making a name for himself until being spotted (and jumped) by married and not too stable maecenas Joan Crawford. Strong acting from the two leads and a capable supporting cast, and it has to be said that Crawford is looking very well in this film.

Brandon S (fr) wrote: It's just disgusting. The violence is disgusting. The script is disgusting. And the characters are not only disgusting themselves, but incredibly unlikable all across the board. Lee Tamahori has made a movie that is not only extremely inconsistent in tone, but it's also a movie that thinks far too highly of itself. It's a kaleidoscope of gratuitously gruesome and over-the-top violence, unmotivated sex and nudity, and performances that are so headache-inducing that it drags the movie down from simply a pretentious biopic to a laughably bad military thriller.
David G (ca) wrote: This filmed touched me in ways no other has. Every actor in this film is highly talented and they make the film even more exciting to watch. The shots of NYC are amazing and the music is dead on. Faenza and Heyman did an excellent job in writing a screenplay that is effective and persuasive. I left this movie with a new perspective on love and relationships, which is exactly what I look for in a film.
