Carol S (ag) wrote: This was a very strange and different movie with very lifelike images of death and bleeding. How can I say it was very good although I did not like it! I suppose I just did. I have to give the makers of this film a pat on the back for a job so well done. But if I ever come across another film like this or mentions it is like this one, I will not pick it up. Carol

Michael E (br) wrote: Biggest let down I've ever experienced in my years of movie watching. Remember coming across the original trailer with Kaiti Kink Ensemble's "Under the Iron Sky" giving a feeling of foreboding and mystery. Made me expect some sort of dark/noir-esque historical fiction movie where the Nazi's come back, but are now far more advanced than any of the world powers on Earth (much like their military tech during the WW2). What we got instead was some crap and extremely over the top comedy. So much promise, only to fail after taking the second step. Don't waste your time with this one.

Jack H (nl) wrote: 'One of the scariest endings of all time' - my eye! Unfortunately, I struggled to believe in the The Vanishing's touted ending. The preceding 2 hours, however, were grippingly unconventional, well performed and laced with sinister touches of dramatic irony.

Steve W (nl) wrote: Based on a play, this dialogue centric story is pretty good. At a dusty and lonely gas station diner, a young woman named Gabby dreams of someday going to Paris. She meets soulful drifter named Alan, an intellectual artist without a penny to his own name. Their lives all get twisted into a ball of tension as notorious gangster Duke Mantee (Bogart, in his debut) and his gang take everyone hostage. Themes of nature vs. man and never surrendering your true dreams are the main course of this meal, and the side dishes are hefty doses of tense suspense. If it weren't for the strong performances of Leslie Howard and Bogart, the movie would fall apart.
